the goal here is?.. push caufield to sign an offsheet? would rather put gallagher watch the game from team box for 6.5 mil a year than break up suzuki caufield, if the thought is to get dach a solid winger theres other options but habs are finally close having an actually top line dont need to regress.

I support leaving Gallagher in the press-box 😄

I actually think Gallagher is the ideal winger for Dach. From what I've seen Dach has very good defensive metrics, so a line of Dadanov - Dach - Gallagher could be a good checking line. Sort of like Tatar - Danault - Gallagher (Dach has a long way to go for faceoffs though).

Edit:
I should say not ideal obviously, but a good spot for Gallagher given the circumstances.

Don’t think MTL traded what they did for Dach to be a 3C he has a pretty unique skill set. Imo pairing him with Caulfield would be really dynamic.

I would agree with that give him some vets and then go from there theres going to be, hopefully, a few young wingers coming up in the next year or two they're will be some options, hopefully one of Farrel or Roy are able to make the jump and produce at the nhl level.

Am just concerned that putting Dadonov on a checking line won't increase his value.
I think it's pretty clear that we got him to flip at TDL.

He could also be moved out as the salary component in a PLD trade or a move for a D. I agree that he’s not likely to be a long term Hab. Just the same, probably a useful player in offensive situations in the interim.

Besides, Caufield will be a 10.2(c) player at season end and not eligible for an offer sheet. St. Louis will do well to make everyone fully earn their second contracts.

Slafkovsky makes sense to me getting this assignment his first year, but it’ll undoubtedly change throughout the year.

I don’t think we want Dach playing against top lines his first year in Montreal. At least not to start the season. Let him get his offensive confidence first. Thus another reason to pair him with someone like Caufield.

Such a drop from a few years ago.
I think he's by far the worst contract we have.
6.5 x5! What was MB thinking?

Some truth to that but really.... If you dont sign him and you tell the fans it was because Gallagher priced himself out of Montreal with a 6.5 x 6 deal. Fans, real knowledgeable fans would accept. (I think) but if he did not sign, we would be talking about how Mtl dodged a bullet and how Team X is in a cap crunch because of his bad contract.

Bergevin lied when he said I always think about the Habs future, not about my job. Yeahhhhh right

Truth be told, I liked MB in general.
But Gallagher Price Byron's deals were very costly.
... And then there's the Drouin Trade...
I hated it at the time... Drouin had proved so little.

I always liked Bergevin, the only thing I mind about him is he gets to personal with the players he likes (Shaw, Gallagher, Price, Byron, etc)
