The Ducks have no reason to trade a 23-yr old up and coming forward for a 30-yr old UFA to be defenseman.

I have legit concerns about our LHD if we move dumoulin or pettersson…
As much as I’d still move one of them, I’m not sure that both POJ and Smith can take the next step and if they did I’d expect them both to pair with Ruhwedel/Ruuta veteran stay-at-home types

Ducks have cap space and need help down the left. Could very well use a veteran like Dumo to chip in and in the meantime they’re getting practically paid to do so throwing a sweetener 4th in there.

In return, they send back a forward coming off of 2 questionable seasons who could use a change of scenery. I mean if you really wanted we could make that 4th a 3rd or throw a middling prospect in the deal but I still think that with this the Ducks would at least consider it.

In one of those two seasons he led the team in goals and the only people saying he needs a change of scenery are the ones begging for him in a trade. I'll keep Comtois and fix the left side some other way.

Ducks are fine down the left side once Vaaks and Benoit get their new RFA deals but thanks anyways

I think "fine" is a bit of an exaggeration, but given what Verbeek has said to the media recently that left side looks like it might happen regardless. I sure hope he adds a guy that can eat some minutes though.

I’m fine with it for this season then next year Vaaks being our 5th or 6th dman and Benoit being our 7th

We're willing to bet that 4 years of Max Comtois are going to be more valuable to us than one year of Brian Dumoulin.

Aside from the fact that, as our esteemed colleague @CHAR points out, Comtois led the team in goals in one of the two "questionable" seasons he's had, if he's such a dubious asset, why do you want him?

It never fails in these trade scenarios. The team acquiring Comtois tells us he's bad and gives little in value to get him and then promptly sticks him on the second line. Almost always a playoff bound team that some how in the process sheds 2 or 3 million in salary. I feel so blessed that the rest of the league wants to help out the Ducks like that.
