I’ll be curious to CGY fans reaction. This is a sneaky good proposal imo.

I would prefer one of Cozens, Savoie, or Quinn but this is not bad

I’m pretty adamantly against trading for Tkachuk, doesn’t really fit with our rebuild timing/could really stress the cap in a couple of years, but this trade would certainly pique my interest.

He fits the rebuild and should be considered a necessity. Hes built to win cups

We already have a winger making 9 mil in Skinner, adding a 10 mil winger will likely create cap troubles down the line. Our defense is going to be expensive in a few years when Dahlin and Power need new deals. If Tage repeats he’ll get in the neighborhood of 7-9 mil, and if Cozens becomes what we hope the cap will be tight just when we’re starting to compete for cups. Then if/when quinn, JJP, Savoie, etc need new deals we could struggle. We’re still a year away from a big move like this, if we ever have one. I think we’re really trying to build a team from the ground up like Tampa, the cup penguins. Adding Tkachuk could make that difficult. Not to mention that he probably wouldn’t want to sign a long term deal here which would make it not worth it to begin with.

Thompson and Mitts are going to be expendable. depending on where theyre at at the TDL Mitss gets moved for depths and/or Thompson is sold at a high

15 in 27 over his career, besides game 1 of the oilers series he was invisible in that series when it mattered most

Thompson is quite literally the only center on the roster that has proven capable of top 6 production. Tage last year had 38 goals which is just 4 off Tkachuk’s career high, and there’s no argument that Tkachuk had significantly better linemates (Gadreau+Lindholm>>>>Skinner+40 games of Tuch). This a garbage take. Mitts sure, he could be expendable, but if we lost Tage on top of the assets that we lose for Tkachuk, this would be an awful idea.

he went 0 for in his rookie season then went 3 for 5 and 2 in 6, hes 24 and has 15 in 23 if you disregard his rookie year.

For now, i suspect Cozens will join him this year, and Tage will fall back to reality. with Krebs Savoie, Kulich, and Ostlund confirmed waiting in the wings, and Huglan making a huge case for himself, and Thompson could hold enough value to bring in a Chychrun or a righty RD, he'll be moved. Though I would keep him just to keep him with Tkachuk ironically

I wasnt comparing Tage to Tkachuk as Tkachuk is a winger and Tage is a C. There are other reasons why hes expendable as stated. regardless, Tage has to prove himself again to call him a 38 goal scorer. Go look at Derek Plante's stats. So there was no take, but the take you made up wasnt even that garbage as Tage still has a lot to prove, and as I stated I would assume he regresses towards his mean rather than doubles down, though I would very much love it if he doubled down

If Tage Thompson repeat his 35+ goals season, and then agree to his salary + 6 mil from Okoposo, for multiple years, Sabres are golden down the middle.
Olofsson has 2 years, that perfect with Quinn, Peterka new deals.
Dahlin extension won't be a hug cap hit, since he is already at 6 aav.
Savoie, Ostlund, Kulich most likely won't sniff NHL next year, so their 3 yrs ELC wouldn't start before 23/24 and would go 26/27 (Skinner deal ends then)
Skinner could be bought out after 23/24 season if needed.

Only real hit would be if Cozens and Power got 8 years fat deals out of the ELC.

Skinner could be producing though, especially if Tage is
Savoie, Ostlund, Kulich dont have to be in the NHL next year, but easily could force the Sabres hand

Truly I cannot see either of them being ahead of anyone, who will be promoted from AHL this year.

It depends, The Sabres may have the most statistical variables of any team that could completely shift the face of this team by the start of next season. Kinda fun, Kinda anxiety enducing
