Can’t. He’s trash. And the way they have been operating, I’m happy he is stuck in Vegas weighing them down for a long time.

Don't you mean pretend the Buffalo front office were good human beings and let Eichel get the surgery he wanted?

Buffalo has been the NHL laughing stock for a long time. You’ve finally turned a corner. Do not ever look back.

For gods sakes... complain about bad management a few times and suddenly hes the bad guy. Funny how so many in this fanbase seem to forget they were loving thus guy and complaining about management not too long ago. Also funny how they ignore these players saying he is a good guy because it doesn't fit their narrative.

Nah; the laziness is in that you think the Sabres should have let him get the surgery. If it was so uncontroversial then every team would have had a reasonable offer for Jack. It was a weird situation and wasn't black and white in terms of what was clearly the right thing to do

No, I'm just not someone who's blinded by his fandom. Buffalo's front office are just trash humans.

Let’s pretend that Eichel would want to stay in a city with a trash team and management who prevents him from getting a very important surgery

It certainly is lazy. Blaming buffs org is a copout/political answer so you dont have to have an educated opinion on the risks of the surgery. The bad front office is an entirely separate issue in my OP but is always brought in as a talking point here so nobody has to actually talk about the research and risks involved in the surgery eichel wanted. Develop a clear opinion based on medical research that can show long term risks/prognosis and weigh that to the remaining length and $$ amount of Eichel's contract - I have yet to see anyone be honest about it - especially eichel himself.

two additional NHL players (including joel farabee, an important young player on the flyers!) have gotten this surgery less than 12 months after jack did. clearly he was on to something wanting to get it as opposed to the other one or other players would have just gotten the fusion surgery. medical autonomy is always the way

I can definitely say that the Canes are thanking the Sabres for trading Eichel to Vegas since that allowed the Canes to get Patches and Coghlan for free.

Farabee makes under 1 mil lol Also, just bc Eichel set a precedent, it does not mean it was right. We will see (and I hope it works out for them). Eichel lets other ppls lawyers say they weren't the first and lowers the risk in terms of payout later if the replacement fails long-term

I absolutely love these takes after half of one season. I'm not sure what people thought Eichel would look like after sitting out for a year, but he definitely showed signs of brilliance in spurts. Let's not forget that the surgery that the Sabres wanted him to have would have meant that he wouldn't have played at all last season.

You realize he didn’t get traded because he’s a bad person right?

He might be, but he got traded because you wouldn’t let him get corrective surgery that wouldn’t degenerate his discs

As for who the bad guy is in this scenario, that can be both Eichel and the front office. Eichel wanted a surgery that had never been done on an NHL player before, and Buffalo was in the right for not wanting to damage his value any more than it already was. However, how Buffalo handled it was also in the wrong. Not to mention, you really can’t blame any of the Eichel situation on Adams. He was given a crap sandwich of a situation and he had to make the best of it. Both sides could have handled the situation better, but neither entity can be the sole bad guy in this scenario.

farabee was signed last offseason to a 5milx6 extension that goes into effect this year. and look, who knows. but clearly multiple nhl medical teams and outside doctors feel like this is a better option than the other surgery. think what you will about him outside of this but he’s well within his rights to want to make his own decisions about his body, that doesn’t make him a bad person lmao

Even if you didn’t trade him he could’ve just sat out and gotten 10M per year to do nothing

Is there anything wrong with wanting out of a team? If your team is terrible and you want to win now you should have the right to go where you want in the case of Eichel it was a playoff contender

Jack: "Hey I want out. But first let me get this neck surgery so if anything goes wrong and I cant play anymore and you guys can also just lose out on the EIGHTY MILLION that you lined up for me... cool?"

FO: "Um no, if you want to stay you can get the surgery. You demanded a trade before the injury, so, if you want out, you can get your new team to let you get your neck surgery"

This isn't complicated. It would've been so f'in stupid for the Sabres to assume 100% of the risk when Jack was demanding a trade after the team just gave him 30 million dollars.

It's also a re-writting of history. Eichel wanted out following the first Covid season, 2019-20, long before he was injured and his request was denied.
