Since when was trading Hart candidates for more than a one-for-one allowed?

Asking for a friend.

Massive W for CGY, especially considering Tkachuk could've just walked for nothing.

Florida really got rid of their cornerstone player. Sad to see Huberdeau go. Good luck with having no cap space again

I disagree with Huby being a cornerstone. He was great, but Barkov is Florida’s cornerstone.

Florida basically gutted its team to add 1slight upgrade at the wing

That Dcore got weaker and man you better pray chucky and Barkov develop chemistry on par with Hubie as man this could backfire on Zito and make Treliving a candidate for GM of the year

Also Florida all in pt 2

Biggest trade of the cap era. I love this trade because Florida absolutely shot themselves in the foot. Imagine adding Matthew Tkachuk and still making your team worse

And still being like, $3.5M or something over the cap when all is said and done.

And going four years without a 1st round pick.

And still having…whatever the hell that Bobrovsky contract is.

Then again, FLA *did* get a 4th…

I understand both Huberdeau and Weegs is upcoming ufa's......but even hubby one for one tkachuk would of been bad. I mean it's a good contract, and opens some cap space......but damn...I guess a 115 point getter wasn't good enough for zito. Flames win, and even if they don't sign they still win

If Huberdeau and Weegar walk next year this is a Calgary L but if they can atleast sign Huberdeau it's a BIG W for Calgary.

No 1sts until 2026 and only Tkachuk + a 2nd round exit to make up for it

Only a W for the Flames if they extend Huberdeau. Massive W if they can keep both him and Weegar

I voted fair deal as I think this makes sense for both teams.

FLA knew that they were not able to keep both Huberdeau and Weegar around, so turning both of them into a 24 year old power forward for the next 8 years is a great investment from them in the long run.

CGY doesn't have to settle on retooling after losing two of their core players, which is instantly a W for them. But they also take a huge gamble here, as both of these guys they've taken are veterans close to their 30s, and they both need to get re-signed, which is bound to get really expensive. Luckily for them both Monahan and Lucic have expiring contracts this year so keeping both of them is in theory very possible, assuming they're not pulling a Gaudreau and walking away from more money than they'd get by staying in Calgary.

Florida's win is that they get the risk free option, CGY could turn out getting more value out of this but they're taking a much bigger gamble here.

Think this will be fine for both teams looking back after a few years.

It was very likely that Huberdeau and Weegar weren't going to re-sign in Florida once their deals were up next offseason. Tkachuk signing for 8 years ensures they've got an elite winger for whatever attempt at the cup they're going to try to make. Calgary replaces at least one of their offensive wingers and gets a real analytical daring for a defenseman, which makes some of their D's available for sale if they need to improve the defense. The first and kid going to Calgary are more or less washes for now; not going to know if those futures pan for for another 3 years.

The fact that Huberdeau and Weegar are UFA next year is the reason why CGY got so much. Considering the fact that both Gaudreau and Tkachuk waanted out, I have no reason to think that Huby and Weegar would want to sign long term either. big Win for CGY right now if both of them Signs, else Florida with the long term win here. Tough to vote on that one

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of Blues fans suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

If they don't want to re-sign, they can be flipped at the deadline for more assets.

I like it for FLA longterm. I like it for CGY for only 1 year. Too soon to say a winner or loser.

This could turn very ugly for CGY if they don't win the Cup or flip/re-sign Huberdeau and Weeger this year. If it just turns out as Tkachuk + 4th for 1st + Schwindt + 2 rentals (that walk after the season), yuck for CGY.

Yeah, this is the take right here.
