ok, as an oilers fan, knowing that we have ken holland as a gm, this trade makes me furious

Calgary gets JONATHAN HUBERDEAU, MACKENZIE WEEGAR, some dude named schwindt AND A 1ST

IF CALGARY WASNT SO PICKY, WEEGAR, A FIRST AND A PROSPECT SOUNDS LIKE BORDERLINE ALMOST ENOUGH, (picture NHL 22 and seeing the "value is almost there message"
AND ON TOP OF THAT YOU ADD YOUR TEAMS BEST PLAYER WHO JUST HAD A CAREER SEASON

this is just stupid

florida fans, i hope you feel the same way as i do

I am almost certain that this happened because contract talks were hitting a wall with the two players.

WE'll see how this pans out, not making any judgments just yet.

Plus Tkachuk is only 24 and the players we traded are nearing their 30's...

Gonna be interesting it seems like Florida is well above the Cap right now with 22 players something more is coming.

Hubie and Weegar are in the final year of their contracts and did not sound like they were sticking around. Chuckie already signed for 8 years. Do the math.

First, Ken Holland formed the greatest NHL team of all time (2001-02 Red Wings)
Second, I think that this trade was absolutely insane. Huberdeau would have probably wanted too much but he was the best playmaker on the Panthers, heck, probably the best playmaker in the league this season. Tkachuk will never have an 100 point season again.

Hornqvist is probably getting traded. $5.3 million this upcoming season for a 4th liner? Pass. Might also move Montour based on what I’m hearing. Might still trade for a D man.

it had to have been that huberdeau and weegar weren't going to extend. but honestly huberdeau w/ extension in place + schwindt for tkachuk w/ extension in place + late pick should've been enough, weegar could've been moved somewhere else or kept until the year was over
hopefully huberdeau and weegar resign with CGY otherwise they leave next year with schwindt and a first, which isnt ideal

I still cannot fathom why they didn't buy Hornqvist out. I know they have done that too much in the past but this was a $3.5 million swing on a 4th line player when space is badly needed. Perhaps the Duclair surgery affected their decision and they don't have faith in Noel Serron or Grigori Denisenko stepping up at RW for half the season?

Great trade for both teams and the time and the circumstances of the three players contracts.. But it was absolutely insanity for the Flames to pay Huberdeau 10.5m X 8 year which starts at the age of 30. Imagine if the Flame had that 10.5m into this this summer's UFA market?

Welp, looking back at this, you were on to 2 things:

1) Severity of Duclair’s injury, &
2) Panthers non-believe in Serron Noel.

Duclair has since been traded and Panthers let Noel walk in FA. As for Denisenko, no idea what the plan is for him.

Trade was good for both teams, but Flames would have been a thousand times better having 16.25m in cap this summer rather than Huberdeau and Weager for eight more season, taking them into their later 30s when their contract ends.
I don't know why GMs are fans of CF worry so much about extensions. Unless they are good value extensions, just save that cap for some other players.

I think Weegar is worth his contract, but Huberdeau’s contract will come back to bite the flames in the a**.

Well, this is wrong.

Also, the Flames didn't need to extend Huberdeau or Weegar. They could of traded both of these guys for even more of a return.
