Hear me out :

Huberdeau wants to play in MTL apparently (says it too his close friends) so let’s say he didn’t want to extend there, they would have lost him for nothing. Extension talks with Weegar didn’t went well so he wasn’t coming back. Again, they would have lost him for nothing. So now, they get a top line LW for 8 years but they are trading 2 let’s say rental (for a year) players for a long terms guy … + a 1st RD pick but hey ! it’s Matthews Tkachuk. (And a prospect)

CGY gets a 1st and a prospect, they will probably flip Huberdeau and Weegar at the TDL for another 1st from each and prospects. So CGY will probably get 3 1st RD pick and at least 3 prospects maybe more

MTL get Huberdeau summer 2023 lol
MTL get PLD summer 2024 lol

FLO needs to get rid of Hornqvist … I did a buyout but they should trade his full cap hit

Tkachuk was my favourite player, but I think he's more "guy that scored 100pts" than "100pt guy".

If CGY can extend Weegar and Huberdeau I think FLA will need to win a cup to win this trade.

It's absolutely terrible for both teams. FLA gave up way too much talent, became a worse team, but CGY also has no certainty in extending either, let alone both. You have Marc Staal and Brandon Montour in your top-4 now. Huberdeau alone is arguably better than Tkachuk. Just massive steps back for both teams.

Tkachuk will never come close to 100 points again. Never touched 80 points before this past season. He's not on Huberdeau's level. Defensive deficiencies be damned. Hubie was maybe the best setup man in the NHL last season and he puts up these crazy numbers, consistently. That is what separates the best players from the good players.

I think it is good for both.

FLA trades two expiring contracts and gets the younger player in Tkachuk.

CGY improves their team and can flip both guys at the deadline if they don't want to sign an extension.

Florida's offense lost a lot of depth, and their left side of defense is atrocious. They're not in a great spot considering the teams in the East looking to make a push and make the playoffs this season (Detroit, Columbus, Ottawa).

The past 2-3yrs Flames fans wanted to trade Johnny for Huberdeau.

Now we get to see how they stack up haha

Buddy of mine texted me saying it was FLA. I was like "ugh", thinking it was like Reinhart and Denisenko.

Don't see many deals like this and it's so fascinating

Pretty sure Huberdeau and Weegar gets traded at the TDL for futures

Florida takes a major step back tho but on the other hand get Tkachuk for 8 years

The issue is that Calgary should be, at absolute worst 2nd-4th in the Pacific. Good chance they're a playoff team.

Treliving needs to pay whatever it takes to keep Huberdeau happy.

It's a gamble.

Yeah if they extend Huberdeau it’s a W for sure for CGY but if both doesn’t and both are used as rental for a playoffs run that would stink for CGY

At this moment, I think they'll sign Weegar. The Flames haven't drafted an impactful RHD since Rasmus Andersson, they have almost none in the pipeline.

Huberdeau has a a chance, if he wants, to be the most popular person in Calgary. This fanbase is still hurting a bit, if he wants to stick around, they may put his number, whatever it ends up being, in the rafters

Weegar-Andersson-Tanev isn’t a bad left side either and Hanifin-Kylington-Zadorov it’s decent as well

The narrative around the Flames has been downright ugly since Johnny left.

This should be a nice jolt for the team and I think it gives the fans some excitement for the fall, at the very least.

No, CGY is good enough now to make the playoffs, I doubt they get sold for assets. But they get eliminated early and lose both to FA.

If you lose both to UFA and don't win a cup, is it really a bad take? Both teams are worse here, non-negotiable.

That would be bad assets management

That's my point. They will be good enough with this roster to make playoffs and therefore not sell them at the TDL, but they're also not good enough to win a cup. And will then lose both in free agency so they are left with a 1st and a ****ty prospect.

I don’t think they are dumb enough to do that 😆
