Sure, I would signoff on that, but Wpg would not, I think.

Dubois is a whiner. He whined in Columbus and got traded, and now in Winnipeg he wants to be traded again. I don't want to overpay for a guy who might whine because the pressure in Montreal is too much for him to handle.

Then why pay for him at all? Winnipeg is only gonna trade him to MTL if they get exactly what they want (most likely one of Suzuki, Dach, guhle, Barron). He’ll most likely be traded at the deadline this year to a contender who wants to get 2 playoff runs out of him. Winnipeg would get a better return then anyway when teams in the hunt are more desperate, than now when teams are in tough trying to get cap compliant.

Well the Canadiens offer will only decrease because they now can watch and see if he’s worth signing next year. Plus PLD value has been set with his new signing.

That's exactly my point. Montreal is not a contender and will not be for at least 2 years. Furthermore, Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle and Barron are untouchables. If a trade has to happen today, I would not overpay. Winnipeg would then be better off trading him at the TDL. If he really wants to play for Montreal, he will become UFA in 2024.

Exactly, Some other MTL fans seem to think he needs to be traded right away for Penny’s on the dollar when in reality Winnipeg still has a decent amount leverage for now anyway.

Montreal would be stupid to fall in the trap of absolutely trading for Dubois this year to please the fans. However if a trade can be good for both teams, then let's do it.

I think the Caps decline this, as RD depth outside of Chesley and Iorio is pretty weak, with Johnson being the only other decent RD prospect. Washington probably is a bit more comfortable with keeping the current LD pool of Alexeyev, Johansen, and Krebs. Dadonov as an add in isn’t worthwhile for the Caps anyways as they’ll need cap space for Backstrom and Wilson and they’ll already have to deal players when they return. (Likely Eller and perhaps Johansson)
