This is all over the place. I think nobody is touching Tavares’s contract and with his NTC, he is likely retiring a leaf tbh.

San Jose declines. 1C level player costs more than a late 1st, rental and one prospect

I was going to complain about the SJ trade but then I saw the absolute fleecing of the Rangers making my complaint kind of trivial

Calgary declines

Calgary ownership never retains. But they win this trade by a country mile.

Heh. Maybe if they were rebuilding you could argue that. They're clearly trying to salvage contending status, so no, this doesn't suit them right now.

Both two of those players are nhlers this year. They both should have been last year... but dubas and Keefe are clowns.

Maybe so, but Ottawa have now left the phase where they deal a cornerstone piece for so-so depth and futures. Obviously.

You mean Calgary? Backlund isn't a cornerstone piece. I would bet good money that Robertson out produces him this season if both had equal playing time.

Oof sorry. Keep jumping between different topics, made myself dizzy, answered about the wrong trade. Let me try that again, it's near enough the same point... Calgary is in it for now. Even if Robertson somehow matched Backlund's point total (which is a fairly hot take considering Robertson isn't exactly a blue chipper), that doesn't even begin to cover the rest of what Backlund does for Calgary. You may think Backlund is not a cornerstone, but there's no denying he's an important win now piece. Steeves and Robertson are not win now pieces.

Keep sleeping on Robertson, I'm fine with that. He's just not being given the proper opportunities. If leafs want to make the playoffs this year they had better have him on 2lw.

I'm also a flames fan and live in Calgary. I know exactly what he is. When flames sign Kadri he is 3c.
