So... two pretty substantial cap dumps totalling $12.9mil in actual salary owed over 3 years, AND sending Murphy to VAN, for what is most likely going to be a late 1st round pick? If I'm CHI's GM I would laugh and hang up. But idk... we've seen our new GM do some pretty wacky stuff so far.

Chicago would probably want to add a high pick and a real good prospect to take on the Poolman contract and trade Murphy.

This is a terrible trade for Vancouver and Chicago. Chicago wants draft picks not a goalie/defensemen. Also Mercer and Murphy are not worth JT Miller and Poolman.

Here’s how we make all teams happy. We give Devils JT Miller and our 1st round pick for a 2nd round pick and Jesper Bratt. Then we trade our 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick and Devils 2nd pick to Chicago for Jake McCabe. This way Chicago gets two 2nd round picks and one 3rd round pick in a deep draft, Devils get JT Miller and a 1st round pick in a deep draft and Canucks lose JT and their 1st and 2nd round picks however they get McCabe and Bratt. McCabe can be Hughes long term partner as a RD and Bratt will be a future superstar along with Boeser and Petey.

Slight problem- McCabe is LD

According to capfriendly McCabe is both a LD and a RD. Also according to MoneyPuck, McCabe played a lot of minutes last year as RD (not as much as he played LD but still a lot of minutes).

Have removed Poolman from the deal then. Was really only included so that CHI had a replacement RD while they tank for 1-2 seasons

All around, no bueno for NJD.

Bernier isn’t a contract NJD has to pay to move as he is likely LTIR’ed. if not we have plenty of cap space.

NJD isn’t moving Mercer for anyone that isn’t on ELC and of equal promise. Miller is a great player, but is one year away from UFA.

And the Bratt idea, forget it.

That's not gonna happen.
Bratt is just as good, if not better than JT.
