Don’t think it makes sense for the Devils to swap rentals at this point, and especially not giving up a 1st and a prospect in that process.
On top of that, it wouldn’t make sense for the Devils to extend JT right now has he’d be declining throughout the Devils competitive window while sitting on 8m+ aav.
Rather just try for Patrick Kane at 8m + at a 2-3 year term next offseason.
I might be down with this if it was just Severson and Mukhammadulin but I’m very much against the Devils trading 1sts at this point.
Seems to me the most sensible trade between the two teams would just be Severson - Garland one for one.

I actually got this trade from a Devils fan on an ACGM earlier. Personally don’t know if I would do Garland for Severson one for one, I’d consider it with a Severson extension but would rather keep Garland

For me it's just that if the Devils are trading Severson I'd want them to look for cost controlled roster players in return.
Players like Garland and Puljujärvi would be ideal from my pov.
But if the Devils are competing for the playoffs and such a deal cannot be made, I really wouldn't mind just keeping Severson throughout and letting him walk at the end of the season.

It’s like Vancouver fans didn’t see us just give away 9 million in patches and Coghlan. We easily can resign Roy, which is probably our top priority at this point
