Idk, I could definitly see the team trading Weegar or one of their defenders, but not for picks or prospects, but rather a top 6 forward since they have 9 defenders but only 9 forwards

Calgary won't get that much for Weegar if they move him clean without taking back cap.

We keep seeing that pattern, where players get dealt for pennies on the dollar, because there are maybe less than 5 teams who can realistically add cap right now without moving it out. There are more than 5 teams with cap, but among the teams with cap are teams that have their own RFAs left to sign, or are budget teams who cannot spend to back up their open cap.

If Calgary wants to flip Weegar, and Ottawa takes him without sending back cap, they can probably get him for a 2nd round pick. No way anybody else beats that offer because there is nobody else out there to bid against Ottawa....Same reason why Bjorkstrand went for so little, and before him Brown and Pacioretty.

In all likelihood, Calgary gets a good return from Ottawa through taking Zaitsev, which they have the cap to do. If they take Zaitsev, they probably get a package headlined by Ottawa's 2023 1st Round pick.
