I'm convinced that the right team is going to pay a third for Kerfoot, but I doubt that the team will be Anaheim. Rebuilding non-contenders rarely want rentals.

I'm admittedly confused, Kerfoot had a career year and 51 points, in January he was top three on the team in 5v5 goals. What did he do to piss off Leaf fans so badly that 1/4 of all leafs AGM's I see trying to offload Kerfoot on Anaheim.

It's purely a mathematical thing, because trading him is the one move that makes them cap-compliant (as trading Justing Holl, for example, doesn't). It's just like trading Jake Muzzin, who's worth a lot more to them than he is to any of the teams that can afford his cap hit, yet most Leafs fans don't fully understand it -- either they think that he won't be missed, or else they think that the non-contender team taking him on should pay a high price for him because he should be as valuable to the also-ran as he is to the Leafs.

He's a player with value to anybody league-wide but is too good to be on the 3rd line and too expensive to keep considering the other moves the Leafs have to make.

It really looks like they're going to have to move someone, and I think Holl won't be a Leaf, and perhaps Sandin, too. The only other move/combo of moves left is Holl and Engvall, but I really doubt they signed Engvall to move him, and then they are still allowing Kerfoot to walk at the end of the season.

I thought he was the second line left wing, 3.5 million seems acceptable for a 50 point season as a second line winger. I know Budget Bunting is the first line due to his chemistry with Matthews and his willingness to go into the corner like Hyman used to. Engval and Kerfoot are both signed through this year, who is the forth winger? Are you relegating Engval to the fourth so Robertson can get some time in preparation for replacing Kerfoot when he walks next season, or do you try and move him out at the deadline for something, and risk disrupting the chemistry?

I'm so confused with what the Leafs are doing right now. I look at their contract situation and see Matthews is up for UFA in two years, and I can't imagine he resigns without having at least one deep run.

He's the Whipping boy because Leaf fans have been craving a top 6 power forward for years, for some reason they're convinced Kerfoot stops that from happening when really he's been one of the best bargains they've had for years. Guy can play any position, score 50 points and play special teams.
