CBJ taking next steps for 23-24

Description
Trying to forecast into the future for the CBJ, since our roster is pretty much set going into 22-23. In this AGM, I presuppose that the CBJ miss the 22-23 postseason, and are far enough out of it at the TDL that they ship out Nyquist's expiring deal, along with Jake Bean. I've also signed players off the reserve list who would expire (and Voronkov, as it's widely speculated he'll come over next year). Guessing that the Ottawa 1st would slot in somewhere around 22-28, similar to the Toronto pick in 2021 from the Foligno trade. Maybe CBJ get lucky and land a top-3 pick in the lottery, or package their two first-rounders with a prospect (Ceulemans? Mateychuk? Luca?) to move up to that top tier for Fantilli.

This is how the roster could stand after the 2023 draft; I don't see much room for a big splash in UFA, unless Jarmo shocks the world again. Other than Dylan Larkin, I don't see a player who (a) has any chance of reaching UFA without being extended first, (b) is of a sufficient caliber to elevate the existing talent on the roster, and (c) fits on the CBJ timeline for a Cup window. Better to keep the powder dry and the cap space plentiful for a trade deadline pickup and/or a big UFA signing in the next offseason.

Boqvist is worth more.... and it would be dumb to trade him

I think he was boosted in a way that's not repeatable by a ridiculously high shooting percentage this year. If he's more valuable than what I've done here, then that's great! But I think the FO keeps Peeke over him, Gud isn't going anywhere, Jiricek should be ready for primetime going into 23-24, and there's nothing that indicates Boqy can play LD. So he was just the odd man out in this scenario, since a $2.7M 7D is inefficient for the roster. (Unless they park Gudbranson in the press box, which they should, but I doubt it happens.)

Late edit: But thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate debating this kind of thing with other passionate fans!

The sens would need to be a lock in the playoffs by the deadline to deal a first. Idk if they are ready for that.

I was looking for teams that are hungry for a playoff run, and likely to make some noise. The Sens fit the bill, plus they'd likely have positional need. EDIT: Plus, their prospect pipeline is stocked well enough that they can withstand the loss of their 1st.

What do you think the likely return would be at the TDL for a salary-retained PPG winger who's defensively responsible, a puck-moving LHD with another year of term at a low cap hit, and a 3rd-round pick? Not saying you're wrong, just talking about what the probable package coming back would be.

Idk what's in the water in Columbus, but Gus Nyquist is a 33 year old who has hit 50pts twice in his career, what are you talking about a point per game winger?

For the record I like Nyquist, but Columbus could not give him away this summer and it cost them a much better Oliver Bjorkstrand. You should probably temper expectations

I'm talking about at the TDL, where that $5.5M cap hit is a lot more affordable, especially with retention. And Gus has never had fewer than 40 pts in a full season. He's not Brady Tkachuk or anything, but he's reliable, and responsible defensively. He's the kind of guy that gets moved at the TDL and gets a really good return (like Foligno and Savard in 2021, each of whom got more than a 1st-round pick coming back). It's not insanity to suggest Nyquist could fetch a similar return from a team that believes it's just one missing piece away from a deep playoffs run.
