As a Sharks fan, I'd ask for Holtz Severson and a protected 1st to make Meier to NJD happen.

It all depends on contract extension. If he re-ups at reasonable price, say 6x$7m, it probably works.

Starts with Holtz or Mercer and your 23 1st. I would ask Severson potentially as well since Nemec + Marino + Hamilton makes him no longer a necessity.

And Johnsson and 3rd are probably not needed (nor the sharks 5th). Just Stillman plus 1st.

Take Johnsson and 3rd…I’m just saying that they don’t move the needle much.

Who knows what Stillman is or will become. My confidence is not that high either. But some like him.

I think stick to Fiala trade as good guidepost for Meier return. A mid 1st and very good but not elite prospect.

Swap Stillman and Johnsson for Mercer and Severson, then you have a deal.

Every time a winger is sold this happens on ACGM. Fans always expect huge returns and they rarely materialize. I always say use recent trade comps, and fans get upset. And yet, they almost always work.

So here I go again. USE COMPS. Fiala is probably the best recent trade to use.

Yeah if Meier wasn’t signed and his rights were being traded for then maybe. Sharks aren’t in the same position as Minnesota was. Everyone knew Minnesota didn’t have the dollars to resign him and they still got that good of a deal. Meier brings back more than that. For NJ it starts with a 1st and Holtz

agree with you about fans shooting for the moon, but context plays a lot and I think Meier is overall better/more impactful than Fiala besides being close to each other in scoring, e.g. hits. So expect Meier to give a better return, or at least I would hope so!

People think I say this just about their guys. Sharks fans think I undervalue Meier. Wild fans said I undervalued Fiala (“he is ppg player”). Blackhawks fans said I undervalued DeBrincat (“two-time 40-goal scorer”). Sabres fans, Reinhart (“did it without Eichel”), etc.

I just generally believe, as history as taught, that wingers go for cheaper than expected. I would say the same for Bratt if he was being sold.

The bulk of that return was paid in rentals though.

It’s not like Andrew Copp as a rental. Huberdeau is 100+ point player and Weagar was their 2nd best defenseman. Those guys have a ton of value. Of course Meier didn’t put up 100 like Tkachuk
