Hard no from CBJ for multiple reasons. We're not trading Texier, we're certainly not trading the 1st-round pick, and to spend on Chychrun when we just traded away Bjorkstrand for the express purpose of keeping our picks would go over like a lead balloon with the fans. Chychrun is not the answer. We gotta stop with this.

My concern is by the time Jiricek is ready to play top-pair, Patty's contract is up. We have a window now to compete and a very strong prospect pool that losing a protected 1st is fine to fit our biggest need of finding a guy to play next to Z. Plus Texier wasn't likely cracking the top-6 with this current roster and we have Chinakhov chilling in the AHL even after this trade. With regards to Bjorkstrand over Chychrun, he is a winger, a position much easier to replace.

Boqvist and a 2nd should get it done imo.

If Bjorkstrand is "just a winger", that doesn't say much for "just another LHD" Chychrun.

Chychrun can play the right side. That's way more important than actual handedness. For example, Leafs D was trash for so long but they signed TJ Brodie, an LHD who can play on the right. Transformed their defense entirely. Shea Theodore plays right side as an LHD and is a stud. Ekblad/Weegar are both RHDs but played on the same pair most of the year. Plenty of examples.

Congratulations, you completely missed the point.

My point was we need a top-pairing D to play with Z (regardless of handedness). This is more important than a winger with this current roster, even though I love Bjorkstrand.

What was your point?

I think I'd rather wait and see on Tex and Boqvist. They're both right on the edge of being breakout players and could easily provide more value together than Chychrun considering how inexpensive they are. I do agree that the 2023 1st should be very available for a trade that makes the team better now and in the future. Moves that take advantage of the new Gaudreau window at the cost of the future beyond the 22 draft should absolutely be on the table.

Why do I always see comments getting randomly deleted? Half of this thread just disappeared.
