The Justin Holl trade is a good idea. However the next 2 trades are completely unnecessary Dumba isn't that good and Raty is no where near Nylander value. Also wheres Rasmus Sandin?

It's less about Guerin getting his asking price, and more about nobody showing interest in Dumba. Russo was asked point blank during his most recent Athletic live room: "Are teams not interested in Dumba because of the asking price, or just not at all?". Russo said his impression is that it's the latter - minimal interest period.

Correct, and in that, the only team that he alluded to being a possibility is TOR, and everyone knows it. Dumba is not as valuable as Wild fans believe, maybe if he has a decent offensive season he could garner a first at the deadline or a first and a prospect if the wild retained half, but his value is definitely not higher than Knies

I dont know why anyone cant seem to grasp that the leafs do not nees defenders. They need another top 6 forward.
So now they have even worse scoring depth just to get a defenceman they have no need for

This is based off the report from the Wild beat reporter that Guerin has shopped Dumba, and TOR has shown interest, it is not my thoughts, this I actually think makes the team worse in the short term, which TOR should not do with Matthews expiring in 2 years.

I agree, I'd trade Dumba for Knies 1-1 in a heartbeat, but that's never gonna happen.

I proposed Dumba @ 50% retained + O'Rourke for Knies and Holl as a TDL deal, and even that I didn't feel was very likely for Leafs to agree to. I don't think TOR should be dealing Knies for anything less than a pretty significant piece.

I am just not even going there. Dumba is at his best a borderline great second pair defenseman and at his worst (which unfortunately seems to happen all too often), a turnover machine.

I didn't make the trades. And if Toronto isn't going to sign Sandin Minnesota isn't a bad place for him.

I think it has to do with his performance and contract. Dumba's analytics are pretty lousy. He's fine as a 2nd pair D-man, because he's paired with Brodin who constantly bails him out. He makes 6M and his real-value is well below that - he's just not that moveable.

Im not a Holl person, and it just continues to clog up the right side for Addison and Faber, which I believe Addison might become the new Dumba in terms of name always being tossed around, as I think Faber will likely take the spot next to Brodin as 2 unreal skaters with great puck ability but limited offense, maybe I could be wrong but I don't see Faber as their "long-term" 3rd pair RD.

So, all that being said, if you could get Knies for Dumba 50% retained, I would do that in a heartbeat as well.

Holl was simply to make the money work. He's pending UFA at $2M. There would be no intention to re-sign him, purely a cap balance part of the deal. Entirely optional - TOR could probably just separately move him for a small return, if they'd prefer.

edit - it wasn't just Dumba 50% for Knies though. It was O'Rourke as well. Not a nothing piece at all. Captain of the Soo, which was intentional to play on Dubas' heartstrings.

I don't think that people would disagree that Sandin is a good player, but I also don't think there is a spot for him on the blue line in MIN, even with this move they would still have 7 D on their roster, with an 8th that will sign after his college season

If the leafs did have interest in dumba, they wouldnt get him by making their top 6 much worse
