Description
After a good playoff run, it left me thinking? What can the Oilers do to beat a juggernaut team like Colorado, I thought there goaltending needed improvement but they have soup now so honestly your good there, forward depth is great as per usual, especially when you finish off the Top 6 with Kane. But Defence still has me wanting more! I think Chicago is really wanting to move that Seth Jones contract, especially after it was the 2nd worse contract in the league according to the recent athletic story.

So what does it take to get Seth Jones? I'd probably say not much at this point. But the question isnt a matter of what per say, but how much Chicago is willing to retain. I feel at 4.75 AAV, (50% Retention) Jones has good solid value, hell he did for Colombus! But truly how much is Chicago willing to retain? Probably not much if anything, cause if it was anywhere from 35%-50% i feel many teams like edmonton would have lined up to make there pitches.

For a 7th a team would not take on that bloated contract, but besides the fact, what do you all think would be the retention amount if Chicago where to move him. I think they at max want to retain 15% but could look at basically just giving him away because of it. Does a team like Anahiem, or Airzona take an 8 year long risk and fill a defensive void? I'm not convinced.

I truly want this post to be a discussion so feel free to comment below! Would you guys think Patrick Kane or JT would be involved in coming back as apart of the return as "payment", for taking him on? Let me know hockey fans if your teams would be interested and what you think there offers would be! Cheers!

Chicago isn’t trading jones with retention which makes him untradable

I think that having a RD of Ceci, Barrie, Bouchard, and Seth Jones has a lot of offense, and not much defense.
Maybe you work out a deal like Bouchard and Barrie for Jones at 50% retained. They might have some interest in that kind of deal. But I think most people see Bouchard as untouchable at this point...

Not saying Jones contract is great but take that article with a grain of salt. They use a statistical model that also put Suzuki and Parayko in the top 10 worst contracts.

Its not been done before, though either had a proper sign and trade until just recently. Its not like Jones is washed up either, he is a quality NHL defensemen and a top line one at that. He is 27 and played on a really poor team. He is however overpaid by 1-2m depending on who you speak with, some may consider more but it would cost more than what a team should be willing to pay up to acquire him with any form of retention IMO.

This is pointless. No team would retain anything for 8 years. And jones is barely overpaid. He should be making 8-8.5 instead of the 9.5. He's a solid #1 RD. If the hawks were anything other than abysmal his numbers would be solid. He put up 50 points on that bad team. Hawks need to find a responsible stay at home defensive dman to pair with him. Don't see them moving him anytime soon. They need him to hit the cap floor after Kane and toews deals come off the books. And if they were to try and trade him they would want more than what they gave up to get him since he has a new contract. They wouldn't get that kinda return. So he's a hawks for the next 5 years or so no matter what.
