The tricky part for any Miller trade is whether or not he can be re-signed and whether or not the Jackets have to pay a ridiculous price to shed cap again to make space for what he wants. If either don't go the right way for Columbus than the trade makes no sense.

They can get rid of Voracek and resign Miller with that money and the cap they have.

Aaaand that's the catch. The price to dump Voracek is likely ridiculously high. If they have to do that to re-sign Miller then the price to get Miller to begin with is that much higher. It simply doesn't make sense to invest that much of the future in a single player with a few good years left.

They could get rid of Gudbranson which won't cost them that much most likely and sign Miller.

Yeah all of that is very hard to do. Price of moving voracek is a first and an A prospect. I assume gud wouldn’t be much better.

Also they could trade Kuraly and would have enough cap to resign Miller.

Trading Kuraly would also give them enough cap to resign Miller.

I'd rather keep Texier and the 1st. I think we'd get much better results from those assets for much longer.

They have Gaudreau, Laine, and cheap rookies this is the time for them to win. Im not saying give up everything but they should try their best to contend.

While true, would it be enough to sign Miller and retain the rest of the pieces that need to be resigned. No. There are other concerns on this team that need to be addressed. Like gavrikov. We don’t have the money without paying to dump money. Unless your taking the money back with you in a trade. We aren’t in this market to make a deal this.

Since Nyquist has negative value apparently, I'd want an actual prospect, Foudy is more of a reclamation project now that he's no longer on his ELC

We'll have cheep rookies for years to come. Trading away several of those for one year of Miller is not worth it - and don't even get me started on the "extension" nonsense. No matter what happens this coming season he's going to want to be paid like a 99-point guy and he simply is not worth that.

I want no part of Miller. He is a short-term patch for a team that should be thinking long-term.

EDIT: See the comment just above mine? That's the other thing. We're not going to get him for anything like a price that would be worth it for us, because then that price would not be worth it to Vancouver.

I don’t see any reason why Vancouver would take this lacklustre deal

Conservatively, they re-sign Gavy for $5-$6 mil, Texier for $3-4 mil, Peeke for $2-$3 mil and then bringing up their cheapest depth guys and Tarasov to backup would give them ~$2-$4 mil for cap space next year assuming there is a $1.5 mil increase to the cap. Trading Kuraly wouldn't be enough and both of the other suggestions would make the trade to acquire Miller cost them at minimum another 1st and a prospect in the long run. The reality of the cap crunch currently going on means that there's just no way they can afford to both trade for and re-sign Miller unless there is significant cap going back the other way over multiple years in the initial deal. At that point the trade is probably so expensive that it's nowhere near worth the investment of the CBJ's future to get a player as old and with so little of his prime left ahead of him. There are much better potential trade/UFA options for them or options from the prospect pool for their top 6C spots.
