You're missing Gavrikov. I simply do not see them letting him walk and he's going to cost $5+ mil to extend most likely. At least $1.5 mil needs to be accounted for for a ful roster as well. You're also missing Peeke who likely gets extended. Then there is Chinkahov as well that will need to be re-signed. JT Miller is not worth this much commitment and devastation to the lineup.

A cap dump for Kuraly likely costs a 2nd and 3rd going with him too at a minimum since that's what Washington had to pay to dump Nemeth's $2.5 mil.

Ngl I forgot about Chinakov but he prob can get signed to a bridge deal and Gavrikov would walk if its him or Miller

You have no understanding of how much Gavrikov means to the team if you're suggesting he would be allowed to walk.

But it’s miller or gavrikov and the first and texier and all of the rest. So not the most fair comparison.

Very true. The trade is now Texier, Gavrikov, Kuraly, Foudy, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd to get Miller's 3 or 4 years of remaining high end hockey at $9.3 mil per year. This is also the scenario where Vancouver accepts what they probably see as a lowball offer for Miller.

Canucks decline. You want Miller, it starts with a 2023 first and a top prospect. We don’t need cap dumps like Nyquist.

No way the Canucks do that trade, rumor is that NYR has already offered Kravtsov, Lundkvist and a 1st. That package from CBJ is nothing compared to that package from the Rangers.

God, I hope so. Come on, Rangers. I cannot wait until he’s traded to any team besides the Jackets and these proposals can stop. The Jackets are still rebuilding and aren’t selling their entire future for a 30 year old who will cost too much to sign long term, both in dollars and opportunity cost. Miller has no interest in Columbus. There is not a fit, no matter how much Vancouver fans want the entire Columbus farm system.

They aren't asking for the entire farm system, and don't lecture other fanbases about timeline not fitting, not after you guys picked up Gaudreau

Johnny Gaudreau is an honest to G-d legit superstar; you make exceptions for opportunities like that. Miller is not, has not ever been, and never will be.

    The answer is still no.

I didn’t say a word about timeline. I’m talking about the literal cap. The Jackets cannot fit JT Miller under the cap this year or in the future. This is a team already with four guys making over 8 per year for at least two more years. Moving cap is prohibitively expensive now.

I don’t know why Canucks fans are so eager to move him at all. He’s great. Keep him! Between him and Pettersson, that’s enviable center depth.

Incidentally, in Part 1 I seem to recall saying that he'd want to be paid like a 99-point guy no matter what happens this coming season, and that he is not worth that, and therefore no. This seems to be attempting to say "you can totally afford to pay him that". But that's not the point. He is not worth that. It is detrimental to this team to be paying him that much money at all. That some degree of cap smoke and mirrors can be employed to fit it does not make it a reasonable decision.

We're just waiting to here the next update on where contract negotiations are at. There is a legitimate possibility that Miller and his camp come to the realization that the market for their client just isn't as robust as they once thought, and they end up taking less money and just re-upping with Vancouver. Truth is, they aren't at a pressure point to come to a resolution just yet, we're only half way through the off-season

Miller may not be a superstar, but he sure as hell is an All-Star, not sure how he isn't part of the exception

Gaudreau at most cost them Bjorkstrand. It would have been awful for the team's future to have traded young futures for a guy that much older than their upcoming core, but signing him for nothing other than money is a no brainer.

Even at this "modest" price the Jackets would still have to pay the rumoured price of a 1st and A prospect to offload Voracek so they could actually re-sign Miller and their key UFA and RFAs next summer. That means in the long run this trade looks like Voracek, Nyquist, Texier, Foudy, someone like Ceulemans or Mateychuk, a 2023 1st, 2024 1st and a 2023 3rd all for 3-4 years of Miller *hopefully* sustaining his current level of play before becoming an anchor. It's nowhere near comparable to them signing Gaudreau so the discussion of timeline is very valid.

"Not a very big drop-off" is still "a drop-off". No.

EDIT: A legit superstar is the sort of guy who, by sheer skill and talent alone, can singlehandedly change the direction of one's franchise for the better and make it worthwhile to build around that guy. That's why one makes such exceptions - because it opens up alternative roster-building opportunities. That is not going to be the case for someone like Miller.

Miller is not nor can he be a franchise player and therefore is not entitled to consideration under the exception described.

That's nice. It's also completely irrelevant to the question of whether or not the Jackets would acquire him under the present circumstances.

I sense an ounce of bias in your tone. Are you saying the Blue Jackets are done adding veteran leadership? Cause if they are, you should have led with that when you shot down the Miller proposal

Feel free to check all the other Miller proposals in which that, among many other things, was brought up. Including the one prior to this one, that this is a sequel to. Heck, look at my second-ever post in this comment section for another explanation among the many, many reasons we have for not wanting Miller.

Trying to play the "well you should have said X" game after you spent several reply cycles fixated on a single irrelevant issue is a rather ill-concieved attempt at turnabout.
