A Towes Trade Has To Involve 3 Teams

Created by: DougieGilmour
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 27, 2022
Published: Jul. 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
And to the typical people with horrible opinions, yes we could absolutely use Towes at 25% of his salary as a 3rd line centre. A team that hasn’t won a cup in over half a century needs a leader like this guy

What does Chicago get out of this? If it's SDA and a 4th then it's an easy decline by the Hawks.

Caps kindly decline the offer as being you stole our goalie. Best of luck with sammy, can't stop a damn beachball so makes sense leafs would pick him up

So Anaheim is retaining 2.65m for a random prospect, 3rd, and a cap dump???? Sounds right in the minds of Toronto fans

100% agreed that a 3rd team needs to be involved...AND...it's actually very inexpensive to do it. He's only owed $2.9M for the rest of the year. That 3rd party team would only pay $725k in cash...aka...less than the league minimum.

I feel like the trade machine is a lot better to visualize three team trades than ACGM.

Im not saying Toews is worth tons, but those packages arent really enough for the retention, let alone the player.

I dont know if both those offers get Toews and 50% by CHI, let alone another 25% by ANA.

Put it this way, if TOR offered SDA and a 1st and then threw in ONE of Kerfoot or Holl to CHI that MIGHT work or a better prospect and a 2nd and one of kerfoot/Holl.
Then went to ANA and offered a 3rd and the remining one of Kerfoot/Holl, they MIGHT take 25% of Toews

Are these the only moves or did you account for what Anaheim and Chicago are giving one another?

Tavares and Towes on the same team, I'm not sure Leafs fans are ready for that.

could the leafs use a better 3rd line center? sure.
Should they pay that incredibly stupid amount to get a 34 year old 3rd line center for 1 year? good gravy no, what in the world kind of move would that be? you know how much decent 3rd line centers cost right?

that's literally what one year or less costs for salary retention from a team that is a cap floor team

They would have to do something between the two of them. I didn’t include it

Just checking, I think that could be the deciding factor in this one. If Anaheim flipped Chicago a pick or prospect while receiving an NHL ready prospect or another depth piece, may make things interesting.

No reason for them to give each other anything. Perhaps they would add to the deal a prospect swap or the like. The only other scenario where I see one team sending something to the other is CHI sending stuff to Anaheim if what Toronto is sending to Chicago two players that are valuable enough for TOEWS at 75% for example, so they send Anaheim what they are due for their part in the trade.

If they aren't even on the same line and Toews is effective, only silly Fans would complain. A lot of the complaints about Tavares aren't even warranted, they say he's overpaid based off his PPG, in real dollars he's making around the same as Stamkos I believe, and if they are overpaid it's by a mil or two.
