We have no reason to trade Henrique in return for a rental and Muzzin's massive cap hit, never mind the hilarious idea that we'd give up a second-round draft pick to do so. Henrique was the third-leading scorer among our forwards last season despite missing a substantial part of it due to injury. Kerfoot is a fine player, though, and we would probably pay a third for him if we were interested in a rental.

Why Henrique? He gets half the points of Tavares, less than Kerfoot, and maybe a very tiny but better than Tavares on the faceoff. I don't get it

The Copp trade is probably a closer value for Kerfoot. Kerfoot has higher points per game, faster but smaller. Kerfoot is slightly younger and played fewer games.

NYR paid a former 1st end prospect, 1st, 2nd and a 5th.

Unless they had to trade him, I think any team would offer a lot more.

Before you continue alleging that Copp and Kerfoot are comparables, ask yourself if you really think Kerfoot is going to get signed for $5.625 million next summer.

Henrique doesn't get less points than Kerfoot. Over last season (0.72 to 0.62) and over their careers (0.56 to 0.5), Henrique averages more points per game. And there are subtle indications that Kerfoot has played on better teams over the past 5 seasons than Henrique.

While I'm not here to argue their full value compared to each other in regards to scoring they're almost identical at even strength.

Kerfoot has 144 pts in 360 games at evens while Henrique has 306 pts in 768.

That works out to a 33 point pace for both of them over 82 GP at evens.

In other words, we can conclude that Henrique is viewed as the more valuable player because his coaches play him in many more special-teams situations.

Here are some more statistics I like:
Henrique's last five seasons: 99 goals, 99 assists = 198 points in 337 games
Kerfoot's career (5 seasons): 64 goals, 123 assists = 187 points in 360 games

And he's apparently recovered from his injury season and not in decline, because his PPG average last season was the highest of those 5 seasons.

Yeah, but it's kinda like a chicken-or-the-egg conundrum: did the player fail to score points on the power play because the coach wouldn't play him, or did the coach decide not to play him because he didn't score points on the power play?

Either way, I'm not trying to disparage Kerfoot; I've said in many other posts that he's a fine player that would probably get a 2022-Montreal-like return if Toronto could just hold on to him until the trade deadline. But unless the Maple Leafs can somehow move Muzzin, I think that he's going to be a cap victim at a bargain price for some contender.

In any event, my point here wasn't to weigh Henrique vs. Kerfoot (except in response to the factually false assertion in a comment) but to point out that Henrique for Kerfoot plus Muzzin is simply a non-starter (never mind the silly second that should be going the other way).

This deal makes almost zero sense.

Muzzin has to come with at least a 2023 2nd to get us to eat his deal. We have no interest in Kerfoot because he will walk at the end of the season, so all the Ducks will pay is 1/2 the pick we could get for him at the deadline with retention. If he is worth a 2nd as a rental on 1.75 mil, then Anaheim might pay a 4th for him. Keep in mind, his points totals will fall on the ducks, so that will depress his flipability.

Henrique is a top 6 forward, and his points will jump on a significantly better team. If you want to pry him from our grasp, we retain salary, and you pay through the nose for him. Two years on a sub 3 million cap hit for a guy who genuinely earns his 5.6 million, between his points ability, leadership, and ability to play both sides of the game.

I don't think either would get $5.6M this off season.

Muzzin gets paid 2m this season and 4M next and is a top 4 dman lol. A broke team like the Ducks would pay assets for that lol.

If he could stay healthy sure, but Toronto has no leverage to ask for anything in return for him to a cap dump team. Toronto needs him off the books more than the Ducks need a top 4 d man this year, so Toronto pays to move him.

Not if they want to resign Sandin, who is going to cost more than 2 mil AAV. Now you are talking Holl and Kerfoot, or Muzzin need to move. Either way you slice it, Toronto has no leverage to get anything back for them.

Why would Sandin cost 2M+ when Liljegren got 1.4M?
