Everyone knows you're a Red Wings homer

Trust me it's far better than being a Canucks homer.

How is being a homer for one team superior to being one for another? That makes absolutely no sense

Obviously not lol, Detroit has a bunch of much better wingers right now and the roster is full with a bunch of young guys pushing for playing time. No room for him plus he isn't worth a first round pick to Detroit, maybe another team.

He said “a bunch” which doesn’t necessarily mean we have “too many” or “a lot”; it just means we’re set on wingers.

Detroit doesn't have that many better wingers than Garland

We have enough. With the aforementioned four wingers (who are all better than Garland), we also have youngsters like Berggren, Zadina & Veleno vying for spots in the middle 6, not to mention Soderblom who could surprise.

Raymond, Bertuzzi, Vrana, probably Perron too

All of them.

That's an easy no from Detroit.

Extremely easy No.

Not denying that Yzerman is doing a good job at managing the cap, the Chiarot signing not withstanding. I expect Perron to produce like a solid top six forward next season, but I don't see Rasmussen playing any higher than the 3rd line or producing any higher than the rate of a 3rd liner. I'm pretty convinced that will be his ceiling going forward

I think you’re spot on with Rasmussen, outside of him maybe developing into a weapon on the power play, I think he’s gonna live on the 3rd line.

The Chiarot signing has gotten some flack but, I think it was probably the most underrated AND appropriate signing of the offseason for any team. With Seider building off of his masterful rookie season where he threw his body around at will and tossed around guys that weren’t little by any means; he is certain to have a target on his back or at the bare minimum, the opposition will know he’s coming.

Chiarot alleviates that immensely and he’s going to play top pair minutes as an effective defensive oriented, enforcer type defenseman that Seider will largely benefit from and allow him to have an even better year than his rookie season.

That's 3 maybe 4, I'd call that not too many. Perron is kind of an x-factor because of his age imo

Just stating those 4 would mean garland would be a third liner, so paying a first for a third liner, especially when we have excess bottom 6 forwards, wouldn't make any sense for us.

Considering Garland beats all 4 of those guys in 5v5 offensive and defensive contributions, I take him over all 4. Raymond is the only one that probably has more value since he's younger.

Your teams nickname is derogatory term for Canadians explain that one.

Probably not, although you could make the argument that he plays above Perron if his game shows some regression

Wow, way to galaxy brain Chiarot

I'm definitely optimistic about Soderblom and Berggren, but I'd give it up on Veleno, he looks like he's a tweener at best to me. I won't call Zadina a bust just yet, but I don't see him ever living up to his draft pedigree

Veleno is seemingly sort of an enigma because he’s always been so talented and at times dominant at other levels so you kinda wonder when/if it’ll translate to the big leagues but, when you consider he has yet to play 82 games in the NHL, it’s sort of a wake up call to have a little patience with him.

Zadina, I don’t believe is a bust or ever will be. I feel like his biggest challenge is his confidence and a lack of chemistry with his teammates. I think that once he finds his groove, he can be a 20-30 goal guy. He made some huge improvements last year with his puck control and pushing the play, as well as his forecheck. Even though that did not translate into a lot of offense in terms of numbers, at the very least he showed he’s willing to put in the work and isn’t a lazy player by any means.

Yeah, I won't try to downplay his metrics if he's showing some underlying promise in that regard, but as for Veleno, we see lots of players from every draft class dominate at a lower level but never come close to making the same impact at the NHL level

Agreed. I think at the very least, both of those kids will be mainstays in the NHL. Good enough to play but the verdict is still out on whether or not they can be difference makers.

I see Zadina as a serviceable middle six forward, and Veleno as a tweener long-term. That's my prediction, call it bold if you like
