Might want to keep those thoughts to yourself.

No chance the Canes consider that

why because we know the team manages assets instead of throwing promising players away for rentals or players that dont fit the team (wheeler). yep, connor mcdavid alright.

Canes cant afford a 100% wheeler cap hit and he doesnt fit the team 200 foot game.

You forgot to retain 50% on Wheeler. Florida is over the cap already and you want to send them 5+mil?

Hilarious joke…23 year old talented kid who was on a 65 point pace as a 22 year old isn’t someone to just give up on. Some of the trades that have been posted on this site for Necas are rental deals…show me one comment on here about Necas that gives you the impression Canes fans think he’s McDavid.

Btw - true Canes fans are frustrated by his performance last year and know he’s better than what he showed.

I just don't see any team wanting Wheeler, he's a d!ck and no one can fit his cap hit, even if the Jets retained half what team has space for him that is a logical destination, none that I can see.

To move Wheeler Chevy needs to retain a bit AND take some cap back but he probably doesn't want to do either, seems shortsighted imo since he struggles to sign free agents so why not take some players back if they're not useless obviously.

I don't see Wheeler going anywhere until possibly next season when he only has one year remaining on his deal.

Ive said this a lot before, but the best way to move him is to route him through a team that needs to get off the cap floor or at least have the space. But youre right...tough to sell a team on him

I think we are greatly over estimating how much GMs care about Character.....Teams still wanted Evander Kane after his BS. Someone will have interest in Wheeler at the TDL. He is still a relatively productive forward who brings a lot of size to the line up. I assume you would need to retain salary but I think he will definitely have suiters come the deadline.

Wheeler at 8.25 almost impossible to justify or fit under the cap
Wheeler at 4.125...very palatable and a nice addition to the 2nd-3rd line and 2nd PP
Jets should change their stand on retaining salary...even if it's just a couple mill

Canes just not the type of team to trade for a Wheeler. He doesn't fit their style of play. They made one move to possibly sacrifice some team play for having that high-end scoring they have lacked in the playoffs. But they did it for free. They don't seem like a team that is going to make a habit of acquiring those players. And they most certainly wouldn't do it at this cost.

The CHI trade isn't too bad. I think CHI would prefer a 2nd round pick, but Chibrikov might give the trade enough edge to make it worth it. You'd just have to somehow convince Murphy to waive, because I can almost guarantee WPG would be on his 10 team no trade list.

I am willing to bet the Canes front office knows than Necas is not even close to as good as people think. Had one good season running on shooting percentage. Canes will move him before paying him. Canes are a smart team that understands empty calories type players.

Canes have about $5.9M in cap space (if you assume Jake Gardiner is still LTIR next season) - this deal has them sending out Martinook($1.8M) and Necas(RFA) for Wheeler ($8.25M) + Heinola & Haskins. They literally can't afford it without retention, nevermind discussing whether or not it's fair value.

Same for the Nate Schmidt trade - Florida is literally $3.375M *over* the cap right now, how are they bringing Nate's $5.95M on the books? I think he's still a useful player and not a dump, but at this point in the summer there's only a handful of teams that have any sort of cap room to acquire him without sending any cap back to Winnipeg.

Gardiner has already been deemed healthy. They currently only have $1.8m in space with Necas and Lajoie still to sign.

There is some truth to your statement. However, I think the Canes know that there is a 50-60 point top 6 winger who plays both PP and PK still on a non-ARB RFA team controlled timeline…never mind if he actually proves he can play center.

I don’t agree Necas is an ‘empty calorie’ player. Is he McDavid…no. Is he useless…absolutely not. He is a PP zone entry machine, a capable PK’er and can make plays 5v5. For me, those make for useful caloric intake.

Its close though I feel CHI would want a little more. Probably a 2nd in place of the 3rd. I think the Russian prospects in Russia are getting undervalued but excusing that I think Chibrakov looks a decent prospect. Too soon to say if he will make it however...

The "getting to the cap floor" thing is really overblown, theres only two teams that aren't there yet, Arizona and Anaheim and they've still got a lineup to fill out, one or two more signings and they'll hit the cap floor easily.

If Wheeler had one year left maybe he could be filtered through a rebuilding team with cap space like Arizona or Anaheim but with two years left they probably don't want to use one of their three retention spots on a retention deal without a good payment going their way.

I like my proposal and think it could work, Wheeler with a small amount retained like $500K to Florida for Hornqvist, Gudas and Denisenko, issue is Hornqvist has trade protection so he likely blocks a trade to Winnipeg. Anyway its basically cap neutral for Florida, the Jets would need to move out a dman to make room for Gudas, I'd move DeMelo if he's deemed to have positive value, could also easily move Gudas at the TDL for a pick.

Anyway, really don't think Wheeler is moved till he only has one year left when he'll be easier to move.
