Not a bad contract but he definitely wouldn't be getting it if he wasn't drafted so high.

Did Kakko's agent not think he had more leverage to get more money due to the potential of an offersheet?

A little too much for what hes shown so far, but hes very capable of making it look like a steal...ideally soon for both him and the Rangers.

Paying for future production is better than paying for past production

What about paying for no production? 🤨

After this contract, I doubt he will remain in the NHL.

There is concern with injuries, but otherwise this is a solid deal. Nothing special, but winning teams are build on solid deals.

Honestly he’s on his last chance, if he fails to make any type of offensive impact in these two years he’s a bust

Kaapo Krappo lol. Jokes aside, I like this signing a bit for the Rangers.

How many times have we seen high draft picks coming off their entry level deals before having shown the ability to live up to their draft expectations get paid as if they will? I think the Rangers did well not to do that here. 2x$2.1M is a small commitment, and he’ll still be a RFA, with a QO of $2.4M, when it’s done, so there’s very little risk here compared with the potential upside. The biggest risk is that he starts playing more like a 2nd overall pick and they’ll wish they had locked him up longer when they could still get him cheap, but I think they’ll be thrilled if that’s the way this turns out.
