You think the rangers will trade their top d prospect for a cap dump?

Both teams say no to the JT Miller deal.

Rangers quickly pass on Pearson - they don't really have the cap space for Pearson as it is, and I can't see them sending out Lundkvist for him. If they're cashing in one of their young D it's going to be as part of a package for a more impactful player.

Lol I think Rangers kind of over value their prospects (every team and fan base does- I think they are just a tiny bit over that), but I don't think they would put Lundkvist in a Miller package. No way they do it for Pearson. And they shouldn't. That player does not get you that back. He's worth a 2nd Rd at the max. Besides, I don't think NYR can afford it, either is the player worth taking up cap space in the future with how their signings could break down.

Also, good luck getting that for a rental in Miller. That's more than the Grioux deal, and that was Florida giving up too much.

That's just the nature of rentals, fans get mad about it but GMs got to try going all in sometimes. I don't think the Leafs would even be in on Miller unless the ask is low or Matthews and/or Tavares get a long-term injury that would have them sitting for at least part of the playoffs. I don't think they give up their top D prospect for him though regardless. Maybe they would give Villeneuve in that package instead.

I hate having to say a deal is unfair to the rangers but this is just the worst thing ever

Hard pass from the Leafs. We have no way to even try to resign him. We should not trade two of our top 3 prospects and a first as such.
