Description
So Hexy needs to drop one more contract here and am I crazy for thinking Nylander and Archibald won't clear?

Trading petterson would 1. probably cost a pick/get a stupid low return and 2. weaken the left side too much imo

Smith is exempt so either plays in WBS or he trades POJ but I think POJ is on the 3rd pair.

I'd hate to see Teddy go but if they don't see him resigning I guess that'd be the way to go and just save a million there. I don't see a brock dump and if zucker still doesn't fit into the season I figure it would cost much less to shed him by the new year.

What do you guys think?

1) There is no taxi squad anymore, FYI.

2) I'd say the chances of Pettersson getting moved are less than 1% now with Matheson gone. Dumo probably doesn't get re-signed this off-season leaving Pettersson to take his place.

3) I disagree on McGinn. I think he's the likeliest candidate. His term isn't great, but his cap won't be hard to move to a team like CHI, AZ or whichever the next rebuild team is ready to take on space, maybe SJ.

Pretty sure Nylander is on a two way contract. They could just send down O'Connor and Ty Smith and roll with 22 players but I don't think that's ideal. I wish they'd dump McGinn and sign someone like Larsson or ZAR for the 4th line but they seem to like McGinn so IDK

Yup just wanted to show the fringe guys I'd send down. Agreed on Dumo/Petterson... I think it'd have to be ruhwedel + a forward. Personally I like McGinn it's just a little bit of a rough contract and seeing some people on here trading for Tanev back I think it's okay for a slight downgrade there. My only thought in moving Blueger is that he's a UFA but I'd love to keep him around. Best case scenario is 22 guys for me

Every time I think I understand waivers I don't... don't non-exempt 2 ways still have to clear before the season starts?

To help ease your mind with waivers, this is from a local journalist in regards to waivers once training camp comes around and they have to set the final roster:

"Every other team is also putting borderline players on waivers because they don't have roster space. A team claiming someone would need to have room and the intent to keep him on the roster all year, they couldn't send him down to their AHL affiliate. There are a hundred players all like that getting sent down at the same time. The Penguins' borderline guys aren't any more special than the ones the other teams are sending down for the same reasons."

I believe guys like Nylander, Archibald, Caggiula, etc. can easily make it down to WBS without getting claimed.

Two-way contracts have nothing to do with waivers, a two-way contract is a different rate of pay when a guy is in the minors.

For example a guy who's on a two-way contract and gets sent to the AHL will be paid a lower amount in actual dollars when in the AHL, if a player with a one-way contract gets sent to the minors he gets paid the same amount.

Also a contract of $1.125M or less can be sent to the minors and there's no cap hit on the NHL team, for example if a player making $1.5M was sent to the AHL there'd still be $875'000 counting against the NHL teams salary cap.

Any player who's not waiver exempt has to clear waivers if they're sent down, one-way or two-way contracts don't effect waiver eligibility, games played does.

Hope that helps!

I think the plan was/is to trade Blueger and sign Larsson in his place. Blueger was reportedly in the original deal to acquire petry but Montreal declined (package was pettersson + Blueger ).

I still see something like this as a possibility as Larsson hasn’t signed anywhere.

I just can't see why SEA would trade Tanev. They've built a solid forward group, him included. It's just wishful thinking on behalf of Pens fans.

i agree, tanev isn't being shipped out of seattle, they really don't have to move him. People love tanev in pittsburgh and thats why this trade keeps popping up, but its not going to happen. Same with Kapanen being traded, not happening.

That being said bluegar, is the man on the hot seat. Shopping bluegar and signing larsson makes the most sense. The moves would add cap space, give them a return on a player and i'm sure larsson would be signing a 2 year deal, so that would solidify the 4C position for the next couple years.

You do realize that Larsson has primarily played wing and not center, right?

But he has played Center too. We also have poehling who could play 4C, perhaps that is the plan if Blueger is traded. Or even O’Connor. I would feel very confident in one of Larsson poehling or O’Connor being able to play 4c

I know Blueger was rumored to be involved in that trade, but I'm glad it didn't happen. Blueger would be VERY hard to replace. He's so severely underrated it's not even funny. Probably by far the best 4C in the league and realistically a good 3C. I'd be happy with Larsson, but only as a winger. Poehling is a major question mark.
