To me, a Miller extension would mean Granlund is gone. So that's $5m off the books. Then, let's say Miller signs for at least $1m less as some others have suggested (maybe even another $500k or more being in Nashville with no state income tax, fingers crossed). So that's $6m off the books. Take away one of the scratches and run with 22-- that's roughly $6.75m off the books. So that's just about $1.5m to go. But yeah, it would not be easy to get under the cap in this scenario. Now if Johansen were to ever get moved and replaced with Miller? That would be a big win-- but that's just dreaming...

Even at a million less AAV we’d have to expel a Johansen + size caphit… at todays rate that’s be an additional first+

If you can trade Johansen for Miller that’d be a win but I’m afraid what Johansen will cost to trade given how silly expensive cap dumps have gotten

You'd have to either add big time to send Johansen back to VAN, or take on another cap dump or two from Vancouver along with Miller

It's a good point. Every 2023 free agent is watching Kadri have to turn back tail between his legs and ask for less cause he and his agent completely misread the market and his own value. Also, with a 27yo 40 goal scorer on the team making 8.5 I highly doubt NSH would offer more than 8.

I think the cap increase will be more like 2.5 to 3 million next year. It was rumored to go up 3 million before Covid hit and with it being 2 years removed I could see a similar increase

I would prefer a better prospect/young roster player than Tolvanen, but I still take that if I am Vancouver.
