Sens probably just don't do the trade. The whole selling point was Joseph's offensive upside, which he immediately showcased. He's so many things Ottawa needs.

And Colton is what Tampa needs, gritty 3rd liner who can produce some offense

Regardless of whether Colton goes to OTT, I am just assuming the Paul trade happens by some means and Joseph is kept.

And Joseph is what Tampa needs, a fast and gritty third liner with offensive upside.
We're getting old and slow and getting rid of Joseph is going to hurt.

To be fair, Joseph really struggled with us offensively. I mean how many breakaways could a guy miss?? It was really refreshing to add a guy like Paul who could consistently put the puck in the back of the net.

Pretty sure that’s not the point of this thread. It’s a hypothetical

Paul was needed on Tampa more than Joseph. Colton has just as much, if not more, offensive upside than Joseph and is likely better in a top 6 role. If Joseph had shown any of the offensive abilities or finish on a more consistent basis in Tampa, he'd still be there. Good deal for him in Ottawa where he'll probably fit better. Colton will likely be signed to a similar value deal soon enough, so Tampa is fine.
