Man that's a tough one.

Super interesting idea.

Maybe Colorado due to injury concerns and difference in ELC years left and value in center vs lhd

Why ya gotta do this! Incredibly tough. IMO, if I'm the Panthers, I'd be sticking with Lundell, but it's pretty friggin' close.

I feel like this is a pretty solid hockey trade of good young player for good young player. Both teams may say no due to GMs wanting to keep the guy they drafted, but it could work for both teams.
Max of like a fifth going one way for whichever team feels like they need a bit more value.

Yeah, it's one of those trades that, IMO, ends up making one GM look like a genius, and the other like an idiot 5 years down the road. Not sure which GM that'd be, but yeah, I think they'd just both add elsewhere to avoid the potential of that happening.

Avs say no for sure imo. Byram is just too perfect a fit for their team both on the ice and for future roster building purposes. Plus they have Newhook, who almost certainly won't be as good as Lundell, but still has 2C potential. They also have their 1st round picks.

Panthers might say no too, but it's closer for them (imo) since they have forward depth but are lacking on D (with nothing in the pipe either).

Bo has his injury concerns as well. With his Concussions this year some people thought he might not even be able to play again.

Colorado has defensive depth with makar, toews and Girard.

Lundell also plays a much more valuable position and doesn't have concussion history AND has 2 elc years left vs 1.

It's tough

That was exactly what I was saying, Colorado might have to add for that reason

Avalanche say no imo, especially after the playoffs Byram just had.

I think it's highly debatable whether a cornerstone D is more or less valuable than a cornerstone C. It's equal in my eyes, and left vs right doesn't matter to me.

The Avs are very much built on the foundation of puck moving defensemen, and I don't think they'll have both Girard and Toews past the next couple seasons. That's why Byram isn't going anywhere. And again, they believe in Newhook, making Lundell less of a need.

Just to be clear, I do value Lundell very, very highly. His value in a vacuum is very close if not equal to Byram's. That's my assessment of how the respective FOs would think.

COL and imo it isn’t close. Byram at 21 is an top 4 dman on a Stanley cup champion and is a #1 dman in the making now. Lundell is great but he I don’t think he is ever a 1C.

I love this trade makes the most sense to me for both clubs. Now as far as value, personally I think it is very close but, you could argue a small pick going one way or the other. Otherwise, I love this idea just purely for the excitement it would cause in the hockey fandom world and I am not a fan of either of these teams.

This is your bias speaking. Are you an AVEs fan? It's just your bias, that's all. Not trying to say you're being mean. Not trying to say that at all. Just that you follow Byram ALOT more than you follow Lundell.

I think this is a lose/lose. Byram has the potential to be a Top Pair Dman. He won't be Makar, but still very good. Lundell has the ability to be a #1C...he won't be Matthews/McDavid, but still very good. Swapping them doesn't really look good for either of them IMO. Each team would be giving up on their best prospect.

I don’t think Lundell ends up being a 1C for the same reason he wasn’t a top 10 pick, his skating. Yeah I have some bias but Byram was playing a near dominate role leading the Cup Playoffs in 5v5 TOI with an insane 61 CF. Hell I’d love to have Lundell on my team but not at the expense of Byram and I’m willing to bet most of the GM’s in the league would agree with me.

The injury concerns are about Byram, not Lundell, right? Lundell didn't have any concerns during the last season

Edit: you cleared that up with the other confused guy. I read it as Colorado says no because of Byram's injury concerns and it puzzled me
