its still incredible that even with their 1 and 2c making a combined 5m this is the best lineup they can put out there

It isn't that bad, the issue is the eastern conference looks like it's gearing up to be WW3 this season. They need to tread water and stay in the hunt until Brad, McAvoy, and Grzelcyk get back from injury. When those guys are back it'll be stronger.

It's a good lineup but with your top 2 centers making a combined 5m it should be a lot better than 9th-6th in the east

You are right. It's what we call "the Don Sweeney Special"

with the injuries fine, but with every team healthy, do you really think they are at best 6th in the East? They were 6th last year, now with a full season of Lindholm, a legit 2C in Krejci (in this scenario) and another year of development from Swayman they're simply a better team. Not to mention Florida, Tampa and arguably Toronto all got worse

Florida and Tampa definitely got worse but NJD, OTT, DET, WAS below them all got significantly better. Krejci was a great 2c despite his age but is coming back from a year off of pro hockey which is a massive unknown. They are also downgrading from one of the better coaches in the league to one of the worst ones imo. MacAvoy and Carlo are underrated but I think Lindholm is slightly overrated and not the #2 guy he is being paid to be. I still think they make the playoffs (and that the playoff teams in the east are the exact same as last year) but I find Boston fascinating from a cap perspective. All of their top guys except for MacAvoy are significantly underpaid -- Bergeron, Hall, Pasta, Krejci, Marchand -- but some very underrated bad contracts for bottom of the lineup guys like Forbort, Foligno, Coyle, Smith, Zacha really sink the teams ability to make significant upgrades.
