We have a winner in the MILLER AUCTION CHALLENGE

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 29, 2022
Published: Jul. 29, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
VAN has probably missed the boat on getting maximum return on Miller (last deadline or the draft were probably the two prime opportunities).

But if Allvin comes out publicly and states that they're selling off Miller (50% retained) to the highest bidder in the next week, I wonder what the best offers would look like. At only $2.625m salary for an entire season rental, there should be a lot of suitors. My guess would be somewhere in the ballpark of;

- 1st or similar level prospect
- 2nd or similar level prospect
- useful, mid-tier, youngish player to offset the salary (if the player is more of a cap-dump then another pick might be acquired)

SEND YOUR BEST OFFER FROM YOUR TEAM AND LET'S SEE WHO WINS THE AUCTION!!

OFFERS SUBMITTED;

1) JT Miller (50%) for;
2024 1st (CBJ), Luca Del Bel Belluz, Andrew Peeke, Jake Bean

2) JT Miller for;
Damon Severson (with permission to negotiate extension, NJD 2nd (2023)

3) JT Miller (50%), Luke Schenn for
2023 1st (TOR), 2024 2nd (TOR), Topi Niemela, Alex Kerfoot

4) Miller for;
2023 2nd (DET), Filip Hronek, Pius Suter, Jared McIsaac

THE WINNER IS.... The Columbus Blue Jackets! offered by The_Cannon.
Honorable mention to TMLBRIAN for the Maple Leafs offer, which would've also been acceptable (with perhaps a bit of tweaking on the retention).

"VAN has probably missed the boat on getting maximum return on Miller (last deadline or the draft were probably the two prime opportunities)."

They might have missed it at the deadline but at the draft I don't think they got an offer that would have sent them a significant package that couldn't be matched now or later.

"But if Allvin comes out publicly and states that they're selling off Miller (50% retained) to the highest bidder in the next week, I wonder what the best offers would look like. At only $2.625m salary for an entire season rental, there should be a lot of suitors. My guess would be somewhere in the ballpark of;

- 1st or similar level prospect
- 2nd or similar level prospect
- useful, mid-tier, youngish player to offset the salary (if the player is more of a cap-dump then another pick might be acquired)"

That's probably more or less the same package they could get now, they would just get more potential suitors but not necessarily more.

More like an AGM or pro scout of an interested team.

I'd be happy with that. Saw Del Bel Belluz play a couple times this season, he's a great player.

With Gus included the cap might not work for VAN. Would you be willing to do the same deal with no retention on Miller?

Figured no retention on Miller hence the inclusion. How about Miller half retained and we keep nyquist and swap him out with bean.

Yes I would be ok for the new offer. Bean instead of nyquist.

Did you mean their 2023 1st? That offer will get you Miller, but not Schenn along with him

Yours is better than the others that were presented. 1st, del bel belluz, Peeke, and Bean doesn't look too bad from my view

The fact of the matter is, the Canucks aren't in the business of ACQUIRING rentals, only trading them away. Think about their situation and needs before you fire back like that

They are in the business of lowering their cap while remaining competitive, from what I have read from the new GM.

Makes no difference to me what they do.

Yes, but as long as they're cap complaint, they're not going to give up significant value in a trade to do create more cap flexibility
