Passing as Detroit. Hoglander a bit of a wildcard in that transaction but Hronek > Myers in about all ways at this point. Production, cap hit, age (24 vs. 32), team control, etc. They're signed the same length with Hronek at a $1.2M AAV discount ending in RFA (vs. UFA for Myers). Hronek better in terms of possession as well - marginally - last year. Hard to argue to trade a mid-pair guy coming into his prime for a mid-pair guy who seems to be quickly descending. And Hronek will finally be playing with an actual mid-pair guy this year too, so he should look quite a bit better for Detroit. Boiled down it's a mid-pair D for a gamble on a mid-6 wing while losing a 2nd rounder as Myers will be close to done at the end of the contract and Smith is a replacement-level guy.
