When you look at it after this trade that is one of the best forward groups in the NHL. Quite impressive actually. Followed by the worst D core in the league.

The problem with LTIR is you don't accumulate cap space. So in reality the Leafs are made no better by this trade.

The leafs are over the cap already with Sandin unsigned. This trade allows them to have a full roster and sign Sandin buy essentially moving Kerfoot to LTIR (really they are trading Kerfoot for the same AAV but will but the contract on LTI)

Kerrfoot is not a salary dump. He has value as a player and can bring in a return

Not when Toronto is in a position where they literally have to trade away a player in order to be cap compliant. Teams aren’t in the business of helping each other unless it’s for a big discount. Look at bjorkstrand going to Seattle or pacioretty going to Carolina. It would cost assets to move on from Kerfoot at this point or take something undesirable back

Okay the can just keep kerfoot then and be over the cap and not be able to sign Sandin. That’s okay

yeah, better to trade a useful player for an LTIR dump that messes up their cap in a new and interesting way so they cant accrue cap space for the deadline and a bunch of other stuff.

Oh right yeah they can’t accrue cap space in LTIR that’s too bad. Of course, right now they can accrue cap space, By being over the cap and with no LTIR pool. That right? Didn’t realize leafs got play by different rules

or, and here's a crazy idea, they trade him for picks and/or prospects instead of a LTIR dump that doesnt help them at all. Wild, I know.

Teams aren’t going to give up picks or prospects for a 3.5 million dollar player at this point in the offseason simply to help out the leafs. If the leafs want to move out salary, it will cost them in some way. At least with this trade, they don’t give up any additional assets

There’s a big difference there. Kerfoot makes half of those players and he makes 750K in real money. Also he plays all positions up and down the lineup, plays all situations. He has tremendous value.

I’m okay with Keeping Kerfy if Sandin doesn’t sign. Sandin doesn’t make or break a lineup. Sure he helps but is Sandin the player that puts Leafs over the cup bump? Maybe but probably not.

but they wouldnt be giving up picks and prospects just to help the leafs, they'd be doing it because he's a useful player paid fairly without a tone of term to get locked into. And no, it wont cost them, that is utter nonsense based on hopes and dreams of people who hate the leafs and defy logic in anyway they can simply to get to dream about the leafs having a bad move they can make fun of.
The absolute worst thing that will happen with a kerfoot trade is that they will get below market value, just like the Bjorkstrand trade.
your trade is bad and doesnt help the leafs in any way shape or form

But there are more than 1 team interested in a player like Kerfoot. His contract is good. Also the Leaf's do not have to move him. They could move Holl, Muzzin, Sandin and do the paperwork to float contacts between the NHL and AHL like they have been for the last few years. He is an asset for the Leafs so if/when they move him he will bring back a return

You have to get this idea of helping the Leafs out of your thick skull. If a team is trading for Kerfoot they are helping themselves not Toronto. 🤣🤣

Fair points I suppose then the reason why the leafs are currently over the cap with any roster bigger than 20 and have an offersheet eligible Rfa currently unsigned and haven’t traded anyone year is because teams are just lined up to give up futures for middle of the line up players. Toronto just can’t decide which team to trade a player too with no cap coming back! It’s so simple!

or maybe it's not even august yet and there isnt a rush because the season is literal months away. But yeah, better rush and mess up your roster in an even worse way because a Habs fan thinks it's a great idea

So based on your theory How can Vancouver take him? they are over the cap more than the Leaf's and have less players on their roster? you only have 21 man roster above with less than $500K?
