what to do with the excess players

Description
Sharks as they stand right now:
we have 4 NHL caliber G (none i would call elite but 2 quality)
we have 9 NHL caliber D (none i would call elite but 2 quality)
we have 16 forwards with 4 more rookies who are NHL ready or very close. (1 maybe 2 elite, 4 more decent and the rest depth at best)

the only way we make it to opening night without risking losing a player to waivers is by keeping Eklund, Bordeleau, Coe, Veronneau, and Raska in the AHL with Reedy are also pushed back to the AHL. so to me it looks like were going to end up keeping Veil, Gadjovich, Nieto, Bonino, Sturm, & Lorentz in the NHL over Eklund, Bordeleau, Coe, Raska, Reedy, & Veronneau. seems like a HUGE waste of potential to me.
on D now were left with forcing Knyzhov and Merkley back to the AHL regardless of their camp even though they have way more upside than 5 of the 7 D were keeping in the NHL.
again a huge waste of potential to me.
In net we can put Dell in the AHL and if we lose him not a big deal at all, but we have to find a way to move Hill and i think the best time would have been at the draft. at this point i think were lucky to get a 5th for him.
again a wasted opportunity to improve our team. we can only Hope all 3 goalies have a good camp and another team loses their goalie and gets desperate.

yes all the waiver exempt guys could come flat to camp and make this a moot point but isn't it smart to leave at the very least a few spots where young guys can fight for them when your team looks nothing like a playoff contender?

I seriously don't understand the outlook and the plan for the team. Unless the goal is top 5 pick in the draft.

Just make sure Dell doesn't play a single game in the NHL or AHL and the hockey world will be happy. Don't need him laying out unsuspecting players with dirty hits.

I would also say don't rush any of your young prospects to the NHL, let them win together with the Barracuda and bring them up together in 23-24

I agree with you on Hill - best case is some other team needs a goalie during the preseason and you're able to trade him.

As for the D - would you keep Megna on the roster over Knyzhov? I'd be inclined to waive Megna and let Vlasic, Nutivaara, and Knyzhov compete for third pairing ice time.

Also, what about trying to trade Meier for futures? He can be replaced by Eklund, and it would save you some cap space. Not sure whether or not he's interested in extending after this season anyway.

Fingers crossed Dell never plays a game for us! and while i agree with being patient with prospects but when they are ready like Merkley and Reedy for sure are it seems dumb to hold them back.

Meier doesn't seem on board with the remodel so I'm not so sure he resigns. agree we should trade him but we would need a HUGE haul and teams are hesitant to move futures for a potential rental player at this point in the off season so we have to wait. but Holtz, the 23 1st plus a guy like Walsh from NJD would be sweet for us.

Megna is actually solid defensively and a good teammate i would rather be don't with simek and Vlasic over him.
Knyzhov is our 2nd best LD but he is also waiver exempt meaning we can move him down without exposing him so i feel that's what the team might do.

They're going to let god... err camp... sort em out

it's going to be an incredibly competitive camp with people fighting for spots,
probably completely by design. Grier thunderdome

it's not a bad way to go making the kids force the coaches hand!
it's just in past the sharks were always hesitant at dumping vets to give kids a spot and if they have a waivers exemption even a great camp might not be enough.

Eklund will be pissed for sure if he doesn't make the team. Not sure if he'll play for Cuda or continue playing in europe. Does he have a choice? Others would be fine in AHL, including Bordeleau. I agree with your post's frustration of clogging everything up with UFAs

truth be told Eklund could use AHL more than Bordeleau. I think both stay in the AHL to start and pair with Coe
I see that line destroying competition for the first month or so and the sharks making moves to get all three up.

yeah the silver lining of all of this is we'll probably end up with a dope AHL team with cheap beers & lower level seating

and my frustration is with adding below average UFA or trade pickups! Kunin and Lindbolm are both younger and primed to make a jump and should end up looking like legit middle 6 guys.
but then we added Lorentz and Sturm to a team who already had Nieto & Bonino just seems redundant to me. and while i like Lindblom we dumped Dahlen who would have made less than 1 mil next year for him who is making 2.5mil again don't hate the pickup just not sure why they didn't give Dahlen another go.

Eklund - Bordeleau - Coe
Gushin - Robins - Weisblatt
Raska - Reedy - Russel
Veil - Weatherby - Veronneau

Cicek - ???
Kinazev - ???
Hatakka - ???

Makiniemi/ Mann
Dell

fantastic depth forward group solid in net and LD but were lacking RD in the AHL as Laroque will be back in Juniors as well as all the RD we got this draft.
