2 way impact? If his offensive game wasn't called into question, he wouldn't have been traded

Romanov isn't a PP guy - he plays the game similar to Adam Pelech. He can drive offense and he has a good impact on the rate his team scores goals. Points are a terrible way to evaluate offensive impact

Here's how he compares to OEL over the last 3 years.

Podkolzin is good! The Swedish kid is good. They aren’t enough to build a package around!

Yeah they are, you undervalue them as assets

Okay, okay, my bad. It's just when you use such a snarky tone of voice, it's hard to tell

Yeah I’m fairly sarcastic lol. I thought all the LOL’s made it more obvious over text. Sometimes I throw in a couple of emoji’s too to mix it up.

I never said that driving offense and putting up points were one in the same, but there has to be a decent amount of correlation. I'm not sure I see that with Romanov

Ur comparing a veteran to a 22 year old tbh. Harder to have accurate numbers when it comes to younger players cause they r developing.

If Barzal put up better offensive numbers in recent years, I'd probably say different, but he hasn't

Not appealing at all to VAN. A starting point might be those two prospects for Petey, not with VAN adding their 2023 1st an another B prospect.

As I said, would re-evaluate after the end of the season. The Jacket's future cap situation and futures for both Johnson and Ceulemans should be more projectable then. The trade would likely be after the 2023 draft if it were to happen so I didn't really factor in that 1st, just Petey.

I dunno, I mean Montreal already gave up on Romanov. I think we can agree Kent Hughes is a pretty smart guy

Romanov was better than 65% of defenseman last season at setting up high danger scoring chances. When you play on a bad team that can't finish and also get no PP time, its hard to put up a lot of points.

Pelech doesn't put up a lot of points and hes great at driving offense.

You are blaming the player for the situation. And his recent playoff success more than makes up for his regular season numbers imo.

Maybe I'm blaming the player for not making more of the situation he was put in

So the Romanov acquisition is all about Montreal wanting to get Dach?

quality of teammates affects production more than anything else. He's one of the best playmakers in the game on a team with a lack of finishing talent. If he was on almost any other team he'd put up 85-90 pts.

I mean, it will be great to see Romanov finally break out, but he's still in the camp of I'll believe it when I see it for me

it was, MTL was asking the isles for Beauvillier and multiple picks for Romanov earlier in the offseason. Once CHI said they wanted a top 15 pick they got desperate.

I mean its not really a hot take. Barzal can't control another forwards S%. He had a 98 PDO last season, anything under 100 is considered unlucky. He drives offense and sets up his teammates at an elite level, if he had a top line caliber player on his line that would lead to more production
