The Kings are weak at LD, which is why Matt Roy is vital at shutting down everything on that second pairing.

Muzzin has a NTC this year, and was so injured that Edler in contrast had a much better season.

There is no one on the Leafs that would work to offset what we lose from Roy

Muzzin with 50% retained for Walker is the only one that would work with the Kings cap space.

Our esteemed colleague @tkecanuck341 has formulated the exchange that would work: Sean Walker for Muzzin with 50% retention. The problem is that we have no cap space any more, with Mikey Anderson and Sean Durzi still to be re-signed and 15 forwards under contract already, so any trade has to be both cap-neutral and roster-neutral.

The Kings essentially need a left defenseman for Sean Walker's cap hit. So they could just have Sean Walker play the left side, or they could trade Sean Walker for a LHD with a cap-neutral contract. Muzzin at 50% retention is pretty darn close to Walker's cap hit (Kings would have to eat an extra $180k, but that's doable). Hence the suggestion of flipping Walker for Muzzin with 50% retention.

I don't think Toronto can afford to pay Jake Muzzin's cap hit for Sean Walker, so if there was any trade to be done, it would likely need to involve a 3rd team to eat space. LA isn't going to be willing to give up any more assets to facilitate the swap, so Toronto would have to incentivize a team like Arizona to eat 50% of Muzzin's contract. They could either give up a sweetener, or just let that 3rd party team keep Sean Walker and only get future considerations in return for themselves.
