Way too many roster players moving to Buffalo in that deal without any space for the players. They aren't going to keep Quinn down in the AHL for another year to accommodate more bottom 6 forwards. Additionally they already have 2 prospects in Quinn and Peterka pushing for roster spots and playing time in the NHL this coming season, adding Hoglander really doesn't do much for them as he'd likely be stuck in the AHL behind those 2.

Hoglander won't be stuck in the AHL behind anyone

It's nice that you believe that.

Don’t mind that Dadonov trade that much. Nashville isn’t giving up Tomasino. Buffalo doesn’t really have the space for all those contracts, and Hoglander probably gets dropped to the AHL with this trade, since he will likely be lower on the depth charts than Quinn and JJP, who are already pushing for roster spots. Buffalo could bury the contracts instead of playing them, but I can’t see the Sabres taking this just because of how many contracts will be due within the next 2 years. You would be better off paying the price either Arizona or Chicago wants you to pay.

I don't hate this move. But if the Canes move Gardiner and sign Necas there won't be money or a roster spot left. This was certainly an option on the way to where they are now, but they're close to being done.

Buffalo doesn’t have room for all those contracts. Even the AHL has rules about how many veterans you can bury down there. Buffalo would have to be able to dump an unwanted contract back, the only problem is Björk is the only player anybody can think of who fits that description. Not to mention Myers has a no trade clause and probably has Buffalo on it.

Sabres decline. Too many players to make the team, and JJP+Quinn would be fighting for playing time ahead of Hoglander.
