Massive no from Anaheim. Hoffman is a huge cap dump and a third only gets you Comtois when it comes with a first, specifically Montreals 2023.

Don't like it? Offer sheet him.

Unless the Devils have a ton of injuries at forward, while still being competitive, I can't see NJ being the team that adds a mid-tier forward.

Drouin hasn't done anything in the last 3 years to warrant being worth a 2nd round pick.

How about we offer sheet him for 4M X 5 years? You'd only get a 2nd as compensation.

We could even wait and offer sheet him after the 2023 draft, so you'd get MTL 2024 2nd.

Also, thinking MTL would give their 2023 1st for Comtois is just crazy.

I believe the only way Anaheim doesn't match the offer sheet is if its north of 4.25 million AAV, which puts it into a 1st and a 3rd.

Also, thinking Anaheim gives up Comtois for a mid 2nd, a late third, and takes on Hoffman is just crazy.

Not sure they'd match 4M. I'm not even sure i'd like MTL to offer him 4M and give a 2nd. He's been very inconsistent so far.

I didn't make the ACGM, but i think the 3rd is to take Hoffman for 1 year since this happen at 2023 summer.

I think that everyone is overlooking the fact that the OP specifies that the Comtois trade occurs AFTER the conclusion of this season. Therefore, either (1) Comtois has rebounded to his prior form and promise, in which case Anaheim will offer him an appropriate raise in his new contract, or (2) Comtois will fizzle out, in which case Montreal won't make this offer.

Indeed! That trade would be scheduled for next offseason, when Hoffman has only one year left on his contract, so that the incentive to take him on remains palatable.

As for Comtois, the trade obviously postulates that he doesn’t explode points-wise (so that he can be signed under 4M once acquired for a package where the best asset is a 2nd round pick) and that Anaheim deems him expandable in their current rebuild. On top of the 2nd and 3rd round picks, Anaheim could also obtain another pick at TDL 2024 if Hoffman performs, especially at 50% retention.

Zero chance Winnipeg accepts less than they would get at the TDL in 2 years.

I built that package postulating that the Jets elect for a retool next offseason and prefer a (redeemed) Dach rather Dvorak or Anderson as the main returning asset. If however the Jets want to compete, Dvorak / Anderson + FLA’s 1st would be in play since none of these players have the upside of Dach.

The problem with the offer is that unless Dach has a monster season, the Jets get a better return at the TDL, so they have no incentive to accept that.

For your Anderson proposal, he's not a cap dump, but is a really bad, long term contract and with cap space being so valuable, you would need to add another1st to include him.
