Islanders have no incentive to make this deal. Doesn’t make their team or farm system better. Hurts their cap situation too.

That New Jersey trade is very very bad. Trading away a better player who has 4 years left on his contract and who is team captain and also throwing in a 2nd round center prospect from 2022 is definitely not happening.

Can't see the Islanders being interested in that package for Aatu Raty either. They would have to be very despearate to make cap space right now for some reason to do that since Varlamov expires at the end of this year.

Isles easily pass on that one. Korpisalo isn't really an asset I would be super interested in - he's had a SV% over .900 -once- in the past 5 seasons. I'd rather roll the dice with Ken Appleby or Jakub Skarek as the backup than treat him as a positive asset in this trade. Blankenberg is an undrafted guy who might have some potential, but to me it's hard to call him a strong prospect until I see him produce outside of that insanely good Michigan team this year. Chinhakov looks like he might turn into a decent player, but he's always going to have less value than Raty for the simple reason that he's a winger and Raty's a center. I just don't think there's enough here for the Isles to retain $2.5M on their backup goalie *and* trade their best prospect.

As far as the Devils trade, the pendulum swings wayyy back the other way in this being an insane overpayment by the Jackets. I understand you need to move the cap to run a 23 man roster, but I think you can find it somewhere else that doesn't involve trading such an integral part of the team as Jenner.

They don't even need to move any more cap. Just sending the extra 4 players on the roster down to the minors gets them to $2.5M under. That Jersey trade just seems like some kind of misperception about Jenner's value to the team. Seems OP is a leafs fan so I'm not certain they really understand the roster.

Jackets are dumping Jenner? I am a Devils fan, and would happily take that...but seems heavily lopsided in our favor.
