Toews isnt returning a 1st

Why

If Nick Foligno got a first round pick at the deadline in 2021, then Toews should be worth a 1st round pick in a deal that sees Calgary come out with extra salary cap space.

He's overpaid for what he brings at 50% retained. He's mid.

is this trade supposed to be a deadline deal? If not then no he doesn't because right now Calgary isn't even guaranteed to be a buyer at the deadline and it's an over 10M cap hit. Foligno was traded with double max retention for a total cap hit of 1.375M. Not even remotely comparable

IF Calgary is looking for cap space and were willing to give up a 1st for it, they would want Toews 50% retained. The fact that it's a 2025 1st round pick might balance things out a bit since it kicks the can down the road for CGY a bit. But since the resolution of Johnny and Tkachuk leaving town, I don't think the desperation for cap space is there any more. At least not at this point in time. Everyone on here definitely undervalues Toews though. But it is sounding like if Kane and/or Toews are moved, it will be during the 22-23 season. Which will give Toews a chance to prove everyone wrong. Which, I firmly believe that he is going to make everyone look silly for undervaluing him and not buying low when they could.

really don't like the Ottowa trade. Zero interest in Boucher honestly unless we're valuing him super low. Zaitev costs at least a 2nd to take on as a dump if not more, and why are we trading Raddysh? Not to mention trading Murphy for Zaitzev doesn't clear a spot at RD which we need for Mitchell and Regula
