Leverage Cap and Send Kuli back

Created by: MNCountryClub
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 14, 2022
Published: Jul. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
MN has no business taking on cap, but with Greener and Merrill likely on IR to start the year, they could probably swing it.

This also assumes they deal Dumba at the TDL with some retention, so they just need to limp through the middle of the season with a tight budget. Should be good to start and end the year cap wise.

Also, should be noted that this is extremely unlikely. Just exploring an option that continues building for the future while also remaining “hard to play against” and reasonably competitive.

Didn’t know Kulikov was worth that much. That seems like a lot

Hornq is a cap dump, so he costs a 2nd to ditch. 4th for Kuli. Goalie prospect thrown in as a small surcharge for taking care of two needs in one move.

From how many people on this site I've seen taking him with a 2nd, I don't think he'll cost a 2nd to ditch

Maybe not, but he has a NTC, so you can probably disregard the majority of any proposals involving him going to a bottom feeder. Market is also nuts right now. Patches went for nothing.

I definitely don’t think a 2nd is out of the question. It may not be quite that much, but it will cost a bit.

I know, lol grin But GMs tend to value players like Hornqvist even more than people on this site. (see, Coleman, Gudbranson, Chiarot, Goodrow, every other guy who "plays with an edge")

Yeah, the market is nuts. Moving Voracek will reportedly cost a 1st and a top prospect. That's why I don't think the Panthers will move Hornqvist. If they would've, they would have done that before free agency so they could have re-signed Marchment

But I don't think the NTC is much of a problem. It's for 8 teams, so basically just Canada

I love the general idea of this trade. Hörnqvist is not a long-term commitment, brings grit and experience and is a great net-front presence. Kulikov doesn't have a place in our lineup, in my opinion. It's a clear upgrade to our lineup.

For Florida, the move clears cap and brings in a defenseman they need, even more now that Weegar is gone. I doubt any picks would need to be involved; Guerin likes to repeat the mantra that all a trade needs to be is "fair". And this trade is fair.

I also don’t think wild want to take a cap dumb either so they may pass on that

Agree, I don’t think they’ll move him. I just see a lot of “Hornq cap dump” proposals, so felt like trying with the Wild.

I don’t think it’s anything that’s actually likely to happen or even really be considered.

That was exactly the thought process. FL moves some money and gets a nice depth piece in Kuli to help backfill the loss of Weegar. MN gets a utility guy with some grit that can be shuffled around in a young lineup.

I can’t see it happening, but I think it’s worthy of consideration
