Cup contendskies - Year 1

Created by: Ihopeigetit
Team: 2023-24 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 30, 2022
Published: Jul. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1) JT Miller deal is like the Klingberg deal - trade at deadline if not contending - off the books the year after to re-sign Dahlsy and Power
2) Sammy Trade seems inevitable at some point - love me some Timo Meier - 2022-23 season will show how valuable Sammy is and this trade will seem like a huge W for both teams
3) LA seems like a good partner - we have surplus LHD and they have surplus RHD - Johnson becomes a 2nd RD pick if he does not sign - essentially 2 2nds and Bryson to guarantee a LHD on their roster
4) Olo deal I feel happens at 2022-23 TDL - just makes sense to me for both sides

Take out Samuelsson going to San Jose and put one of Buffalos forward prospects in there and they would probably do it. Maybe Ostlund since that Pitt pick is likely late.

That Cal Foote deal is awful for Buffalo.

Just cause you don’t like Middlestadt doesn’t mean he doesn’t have value. This is like watching devils fans talk about Zacha lol.

That Penguins trade is bonkers bad. Unreal overpayment for Olofsson.

Trading Matheson has all but ensured Pettersson will finish out his contract with the Pens. It's unlikely the Pens re-sign Dumoulin leaving Pettersson to take over his role.

If the pens accept with them removed thats fine with me - thought this made up some more value for the pens

Portillo makes up some value - add in picks if needed. Do you know how good Portillo is?

Yeah, I know how good he is, but he's not worth a 1st and a 2nd. Let's say for argument that Pettersson is available. Pettersson + 3rd would be enough for Olofsson. Portillo is not worth a 1st, 2nd and good goalie prospect.

You certainly are. Good 2nd pairing dmen have value. Also, he's not getting moved anymore.

Tampa declines. Tampa has little need for another bottom 6 C, and a 3rd in '24 doesn't move the needle. Tampa values Foote highly, and he showed good signs of improvement this past season. At Tampa's weakest overall position, they wouldn't consider this trade.
