Again, that Pens trade is beyond crazy. A decent middle six winger and OK goalie prospect (when the Pens already have good ones) for a 1st and 2nd? What is your rationale for this trade?

Not to mention Pettersson isn't getting moved anymore with Matheson gone and this being Dumo's last year as a Penguin.

1) Portillo isn't just an OK goalie prospect
2) I am banking on Olo proving himself the first half of season now that he's not injured - hence, TDL deal
3) Ty Smith needs paid next season - that makes your D altogether very expensive next year; Pickering will make the jump up at end of season for playoffs - gives Dumoulin, Smith, Ruuta, and Pickering as LD for ploffs - and gives Pickering a chance to develop in meaningful games

Portillo is NOT worth a 1st, 2nd and prospect. Top players in the NHL don't get that kind of return. That's bananas.

Ty Smith hasn't earned any kind of paycheck yet and probably doesn't crack the lineup this year, so as of right now he'll probably get a bridge deal.

Olofsson is a fine player. He's a good middle-six winger signed to an attractive contract, but Pettersson is a very good 2nd pairing dman. A swap of the two of them with the Pens adding either a prospect or 3rd makes it fair. Again, nothing here warrants that kind of return.

1) Marino >>>>> Pettersson, and Marino was basically traded for Smith .. I think you're undervaluing smith a little - will be hard to sign him for under 3mil even on a bridge
2) As I said - Olos value will go up after first half of season.
3) Portillo worth AT LEAST a 2nd Rd pick - prob more if signed (which say in this situation that he does)
4) This trade may be off a little - it all depends on how things look at the TDL - but I dont think its too far off at all, especially if Portillo signs with Pitts

I know you're trying to talk your way out of this, but two things you keep avoiding....

1) Portillo is NOT worth a 1st, 2nd and good prospect. That's absolutely insane.
2) Pettersson is not getting moved. Matheson being moved and this being Dumo's last year has made that certain.

If you say so; sorry, I did edit my last comment and added a few things - maybe that will clear things up

I think you are very much over valuing your own players. Portillo is a decent goalie prospect, he isn’t worth what you are claiming. Also, when he didn’t sign this offseason it was reported he would go to FA next season and not
Sign in Buffalo. I can’t see why a team would fork up as much as your asking for him considering that

Jarry is our goalie and they will extend him. Pens will have the space after this year. .

Every position has different values attached for different reasons. Goalie PROSPECTS don't hold a ton of value. While I'm aware he's a good prospect, if he was worth a 1st or even a 2nd, he would have been drafted in those rounds. VERY few goalies go in the first or second round and there's little they can do outside the NHL to increase their value. It really isn't until they prove something at the NHL level does their value get to 1st round pick return levels.

Now, please don't confuse what I'm saying as far as his ceiling relative to his value. Shesterkin went in the 4th round, but even he wouldn't have garnered that kind of return until he hit the NHL.

It is very difficult to evaluate goalie prospects but looking at the numbers for the to in this trade Blomqvist had much better numbers last year in Liiga vs Portillo in NCAA. Blomqvist is a year younger and was taken in the second round where Portillo was taken in the third. So let’s say for arguments sake their value is a wash.

That puts this trade at Olofsson for Pettersson, a 1st, and a 2nd. If we go with what capfriendly had been saying all summer of Pettersson is worth a 3rd, which was when he was a cap dump and now that he is not his value is probably higher. He is also signed for less and longer than Olofsson and younger. This trade is Olofsson for a 1,2,and 3 which is very unrealistic. I would say Olofsson is at best worth a 2 and a 3. For him to add an entire pick to his value by the deadline he would need to be close to if not over 30 goals and 50-60 points. If that is the case then there is no way Buffalo should trade him.

Regardless, the reality is Pettersson getting moved has pretty much gone to zero. The Pens moved Matheson and Dumo is unlikely to be extended, so it's really a moot point. Pettersson is Dumo's replacement on the 1st pair. Also, basing any real value on what people this board have been putting on a player is unwise.

That SJS deal is pretty yikes, Samuelsson and 2 1sts? Sabres get burned on that
