Getting Nervous

Description
The longer this Summer goes on, the more nervous I'm getting about Larkin. I hope he stays. They're on the verge of competing. Doesn't look like they're going to get a top line center in the draft anytime soon, but a combo of Larkin, Horvat and Copp would serve them well. The defense should be excellent for years to come. I'm not sure Cossa is here next year either but that's a fun thought.

Don't be. Yzerman has been really busy and I bet they've already had preliminary discussions on an extension, but both are so sure it will get taken care of, that there's just no rush. I'd be willing to bet 1000000 Schrute Bucks, that his 8 year extension will be signed before Labor Day.

Now, Bertuzzi on the other hand, the longer that one goes without an extension, the more likely it is that he's traded.

I'd be thrilled with that, being close to Canada, I remember the summer of Mitch a couple years ago. Don't want to go through that

For some reason not nervous about that at all because Yzerman will fleece a team for him.

Both sides have publicly said they plan to do a long term extension. Anytime they announce that in the media, it means it's pretty much a guarantee.

What? There is close to 0% chance he's not re-signed....

Also, the Horvat signing makes no sense considering we just drafted Kasper.

Depending on a guy you drafted 8th over all to be your long term 2nd line C is suuuuper premature.

For some wings examples how are Zadina (6th over all) and Rasmussen (9th over all) doing as your top end right winger and centers? Are they so good that if a high end guy was available in UFA you wouldn't sign him because you have them?

The Number 8th over all from 2018-2012 are:
Boqvist (seems pretty good, but not a stud yet at this point)
Mittlestadt (not bad, but certainly not the top 6 C they were hoping for, or you are with your pick)
Alexander Nylander (essentially a bust, may be an NHL depth player)
Werenski (theres a stud for ya)
William Nylander (theres another top end player for ya)
Ristolainen (he is a top 4, but as everyone knows, flawed)
Derrick Pouliot (is an NHL defenseman, but depth)

So good chance he's good, but far, far from guaranteed

What in the world are you blabbering about?

Horvat is a great player, but it makes very little sense to commit that much money and term a year after you drafted a center in the top 10. You wait to see how he develops and then commit elsewhere, if necessary.

He's basically saying you don't just not sign a free agent that fits your team well just because you drafted someone else in that position then laid out examples of how that idea is flawed. If you used that train of thought from years past drafts, Rasmussen would be your 1C and Zadina top line winger.

And i explained very clearly why you don't do that right below. That is how you expedite cap issues.

That's also completely false bc Ras was never expected to be a top C or even a top 2C in the NHL and Zadina is a winger so there are several other winger spots on a roster than center spots. Kasper is projected to be and was picked to be a top 2C. You dont sign a guy for 5 years at 7M when his replacement may be ready well within that 5 year range. Look at the roster above - look at how much cap there is and who needs to be signed....dumb move
