They aren’t moving Peterka. Girard Isn’t the type of defenseman they need. Jacob Bryson is already a similar version of Girard.

They aren’t going to move either. Girard is obviously better, Bryson is just plays a similar game as Girard that’s why they wouldn’t trade for him.

i expect buffalo wouldnt go after him because he's another lefty. passing on a #3 dman because you have a #6/7 dman the plays a similar style seems unusual.

No chance on that deal for Girard.
1. We don’t need him
2. If you sign Kadri we are not helping you out to get under the cap.
If you do sign Kadri we may take Compher off your hands but it won’t be for much maybe a late pick in 2024

Don’t think SJ accepts, we have a lot of LD but even more left shot forwards. Meygna is a solid, physical 3rd pairing guy while I don’t think Maltsev would ever crack the lineup.

We don’t. Buffalo is pretty set for offensive left handed defenders.

Samuelsson and JJP are definitely off the table. I could see doing a couple 2nds for Girard but I would imagine that's the most they will do.

girard could easily get that a rental, never mind having a great contract on top of that. not as intrigued with samuelsson to be honest. peterka fills a need much better. you would have tough time getting a #3d locked up long term at good money without adding a good prospect.

That's really the thing tho. Buffalo doesn't need Girard. If this move were to happen it would because Colrado is moving out some cap for Kadri. So that would be the real prize of the trade and they add some draft capital.

They could possibly get more elsewhere but if they sign Kadri 1st teams will pounce on the cap trouble and Girard gets less, or they wait to move him first hit risk missing out on Kadri.

So I guess it depends on what Colorado thinks is best for the season coming up

the easier solution is to move compher or ej rather than sell girad for pennies. buffalo doesn't really get to low ball here given the league wide interest in established young dmen.

Yeah I agree with you there. Probably easier to move those other contracts.
But I don't think a trade like Girard for 2 2nds is crazy easier. Toews is a better dman and that's what he went for. So there is a precedent sent

romanov is a significantly worse dman and just went for #13 like 2 weeks ago.

Toews with NYI was in the exact same position as Girard except for 3 very major differences, he needed a contract I mean he signed for $700k less than Girard, he was 2 years older with only 116 games played where Girard already has 340, and Toews had never scored 30pts. Let’s not rewrite history because at the time Toews was traded he wasn’t better than Girard he just blossomed in COL.

Girard would get more than 2 2nds but you have to send him to a team that has a need for him

Fair enough. Not identical but similar
