Tanking a dump

Created by: Garak
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 31, 2022
Published: Jul. 31, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Give me all the 1st round picks.

You may argue that these teams aren't giving up 1st round picks, and that is probably a fair argument. But then I would argue that CHI isn't taking on your cap dumps, and I would probably be wrong because our GM is an awful trade negotiator.

Except way cheaper and probably more useful. haha. But I'm getting off this train at the next stop. I won't be harping on any Toews to DAL trades anymore than this one post.

Could be worse, though. Your GM could trade Robertson for a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd, and leave you wondering how the hell he got fleeced so bad.

I doubt you'd feel that way if he was on your team, and I have a feeling next season is going to be a lot better for him than his first season back was, after recovering from CIRS. But I totally get the apprehension. If anything like this happened it would probably be an in season move, predicated on Toews returning to form and being a desirable option for DAL's playoff push. Although, even if he only plays as well as he did in the second half of last season, Toews at a $2.625mil cap hit as a middle 6 center should be desirable to any and every team in the league.

I’m from Chicago. I have two Toews jerseys in my closet. I don’t care how much salary is being retained or is going back the other way. This trade doesn’t make us legitimate contenders imo. I honestly think our Benn window is closed. If Segs can manage to stay a 50-60 point guy I think there is another potential window after Benn’s contract goes away. And we will need Bourque and those picks

You want to dump them, that's what it costs. Otherwise, VAN fans should stop trying to send them to CHI.

I don't want to spend Bernard-Docker and that 2023 1st round pick (OTT) for Connor Murphy

Find another way

I'd be ready to go :

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Holden
Brannstrom - Hamonic
Zaitsev

Call-ups : Thomson, Bernard-Docker

But the canucks don’t need to dump them… Out management team literally said they aren’t willing to attach any sweeteners to dump a contract right now. Maybe do some basic research first?

If the Blackhawks were asking for cap dumps, they would never have enough leverage to ask for a 1st as a sweetener

Maybe get a little context first, bud. I completely acknowledged up in the comments section that none of these teams are willing to give up 1st round picks. That trade is in response to all the Canucks fans that keep trying to dump those contracts on CHI without paying for them. So go tell the other VAN fans what you just told me. lol

It isn't that silly. That is a lot of salary to take on. And PIT fans keep trying to dump their cap hits. I've also seen some very limited interest from PIT fans in acquiring McCabe, but interest none the less. And at a $2mil cap hit for 3 years, he would be a steal. But, as I completely acknowledged in the comments section up top, if PIT doesn't want to give up 1st round picks, that is a completely valid. But I argue in response that CHI isn't taking on $9.5mil in salary for anything less.

As I said above. We aren't taking on that much cap without being compensated for it. A mid to late 2nd is not enough. Although, Pettersson is arguably a bounce back/reclamation/change of scenery candidate, but a very expensive one at that.

I've seen one or both of them being dumped on CHI several times over the last couple weeks. And lots of VAN fans trying to dump their cap hits, in general.

Dickinson, Pearson, and Poolman, are constantly being dumped or treated as if they have any value at all. And then they use players like DiPietro and 5th round picks as if they are valid compensation.

Pearson has value, he's just regarded as expendable because players of his caliber should never be deemed as untouchable. The other guys arguably do require a sweetener to dump, but not a 1st round pick, not even a 2nd is required to dump them

I'm sure there aren't as many of those as there are Leafs fans attempting to dump Jake Muzzin

haha. That is probably true. The point of this is more so that CHI could probably get their hands on one or two more 2023 1st round picks and more 2023 draft picks in general, if they play their cards right. It looks like they are preparing to do just that, anticipating that desperation will start to set in under the flat cap and that teams will pay a heavy price to create space so they can bolster their rosters.

IF the play their cards right, but the cap dumps Vancouver could potentially send the Hawks won't cost 1st or even 2nd round picks as sweeteners to unload

Pittsburgh is getting the worst of the three players in the trade and giving up a first?

No thanks

What an absurd trade
