Why would Philly do this trade? Serious question because maybe I'm missing something

both seguin and couts are not the players they used to be, but both still show promise and could benefit from a change in scenery. chuck fletcher is also a colossal idiot so it shouldnt be hard to coax him into taking seguin.

Canucks won’t be taking on Benn’s contract even with retention as they are already up against the cap

Canucks say no. They already have a few too many fwds and cap issues, they have no interest in another forward at an impact cap hit.

When Couturier actually plays though, he's been much much better than Seguin. Maybe I'm wrong, this just feels like a weird trade for Philly to make but I agree that Fletcher isn't to be trusted to make sensible moves

Benn is not good anymore. We have too many forwards, I see now value in trading for a 5 million dollar forward who isn’t even good

Coots isn’t the player he used to be? I don’t get where that’s coming from. His last 4 seasons he’s been excellent (missed most of this year so not going to count it) contract wise alone there’s serious problems with this trade imo

It’s kind of fun or entertaining to make trades involving Seguin and Benn, but in the real world, these two are going nowhere.

I would predict that the chance they finish their contracts with Dallas is 98,56%.

The last 1,44% is only based on them agreeing to be moved at the TDL of the last year of said contracts, if Dallas is nowhere near a PO spot at that time.

You have a enough space to keep Benn, and while yes he isn't the player he once was, he will still have a bigger impact than the third round pick. Might as well just keep him in this scenario since you aren't really using that new cap space to sign or trade for anyone else.

Philly declines you need to offer something better like a couple of 1st round picks

The Fletcher is an idiot narrative is true, but tired. Yes he is an idiot, no that does not mean he is accepting every single trade offered to him. He didn't just give up the 2023 1st to get rid of JVR, even though it's 50-50 if he's even still here to make that pick.

wrong about coots and seguin, the latter has been cooked the last two seasons, the former has been an elite 2 way center the last several years, albeit last year he got injured. Can't use a major injury in one season just to say he isn't the player he used to be.
