Devils decline, not trading Holtz for a rental.
Wouldn’t even want them to do this trade even if Bert had an extension in place tbh.

I like the idea of getting holtz but I would hope we can get more for bertuzzi, who does it all.

Why is that?

Don’t think it makes much sense to trade a blue chip prospect for a forward aging out from his peak while the Devils are contending.
Holtz will likely be as good as Bert in 2-3 years time as Bert, but on an ELC and under team control.
Better to try and send Bert to a contender imo.
Also, there’s some bad blood between Bert and Hughes.

Bert is in the center of his prime(27) and keeps getting better. He can do it all and the devil's don't have anyone like him. That bad blood would be erased as soon as he's traded, if it exists at all. He's a guy you want looking out for Hughes. He is fearless, scores, 200' play, drives play and agitates. Not to mention he's an awesome locker room guy. Trust me, if you had Bert , you'd love him. I'd prefer to trade Vrana instead of Bert, who is a proven top line goal scorer in the nhl. The devil's have done a lot of great things but they need more instant contributors. I love the thought of reuniting holtz and Raymond.

As a Devils fan, I am flattered you think our team is contending. But i am not so optimistic and would hang onto Holtz
