Delusional Habs Fan

Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 1, 2022
Published: Aug. 1, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’ve increased the salary cap by $2.5 million to account for an average increase of $1.25 million over each of the next two years.

One can dream that the Quebec boomer Habs fans will shut up about the French thing with a second line like that.

This team is for fun, but there are rumblings that two of those second liners might be on their way to Montreal. Huberdeau likely gets more but it’s a hometown discount, same for Dubois, but I don’t know if 30 points is good enough for Beauvillier to get $6 million (Anderson gets $5.5 million so who knows).

While the top-9 looks great, the defence is horrid.

I don’t know if Jarry would leave the Pens for Montreal but that’s likely the number he’s going to receive if he improves on this past season. Finding a starting goalie through the draft/development should be a priority.

That being said, I put Price on LTIR because I think he knows he’s not going to be able to play the same or even a fraction of it again. He’ll ride out his contract and then likely join the organization as a coach or goaltending consultant.

Hughes has been reluctant to trade picks and prospects to move cap dumps. I suspect that this will change in the coming years. Anderson and Dvorak will likely be easier to move than Armia and Gallagher.

This far out you can’t guarantee any of those guys would hit UFA status

That’s true. It was more for fun.

If you've got around $13 mil in cap space, what's the point of paying to dump players, or, alternatively, underpaying someone like Huberdeau?

Agreed on this take - even if you have Price's contract on the books, you can still afford Armia to be your 13th forward for one season (2024-25 would be his walk year). I'd also argue that Dvorak and Anderson have some value (especially Dvorak in this hypothetical - he'd be in his walk year as well). Gallagher? Good luck moving him. But he's the only guy of the 4 I'd say you *need* to attach an asset to in order to get him off your cap.

Yup. I also think the likelihood of replacing 40-50% of any roster with that many contracts of that size on it is quite low. Basically hitting on 4 of the top 10-15 or so UFA's over the next couple of years while also ending up with a top 3 pick seems like a bit of a stretch.

Why would Montreal pay sticker price on Dubois? Such a dumb move on his part or agent, zeroing his sights on one franchise 2 years out, especially when his dad works in the jets organization.

MTL wants to get big and fast, yet you are trading Anderson for Beauvillier and overpaid severely for him

Agreed. My point was to ship out redundancies that were not improving the quality of depth. Anderson and Dvorak have perceived value. If Gallagher bounces back (and I’m not holding my breath) it might be slightly less impossible.
